We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Pitois and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The health, fitness and chronic pain industry is a place that is more curative than preventative. Meaning, we wait for someone to break first, then try to fix them, instead focusing on the thing that will keep them from breaking in the first place. The reason I started my business is, I found myself in that exact same place. As an athlete, I had a career ending injury that was 100 percent preventable, because the fundamentals of proper body mechanics and understanding how to make my body more efficient were never addressed. Chronic pain is a Trillion dollar business in this country and the majority of it comes from improper posture and lack of education of what the body actually needs. I believe that people really do want to get better and stronger, but if they are told they can’t enough times, they start to believe it. People get to be heard, helped educated and empowered and that takes the mystery and intimidation out of pain. If I can get someone to connect with their body and realize that they have the power to make themselves better, stronger and more efficient, we all get to win.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pro To Col Sport Systems is an integrated Sports Performance and Rehabilitation Center. I always wanted a place where all different types of practitioners come together, without EGO or hierarchy and work together with the clients so that they can excel to the next level. Sports med Dr.’s, Physical Therapists, Manual Therapists, Athletic Trainers, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, Functional Rehab Specialists, to Sports Performance coaches, all bringing their own magic to this amazing protocol. One of the things that sets us apart, is we take a systematic approach to take the client from injured to excel. Within the system, the client plays the pivotal role of understanding the difference between cerebral and somatic moments. It has definitely not been easy, we have overcome, and continue to overcome obstacles that have set in our way.. From trailblazing an innovative concept, parking, to COVID we have managed to persevere. The whole vision for this company was to shift the industry and healthcare and make the client the HERO again. It’s all of us working together to bring out the best in the client, so that they’re the HERO and we’re the guides. We are the definition of teamwork. I am so proud of everyone who is or has been a part of this company, and so excited for what is to come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to the bay to go kayaking or SUP. We would visit some the more traditional hot spots like Old Town and Coronado. I may sound like a super nerd for this, but I’m a big fan of town history and one of my favorite things to do was take the Old Town Trolley tour because it gave a history of San Diego. From the architecture of the downtown buildings all having a piece of the original buildings, to how Spreckles came to be and also the fact that no one wanted to buy Coronado so they had to almost give it away. San Diego is such an amazing place! I would also take them to Blue Water for the best fish tacos they would ever have. And maybe over to Jimmy’s Famous Tavern for brunch.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out all of the clients and staff at Pro To Col Sport Systems. We are all about creating a community and cultivating a culture of education and empowerment. Everyone who has crossed through our doors believed in us and we got the opportunity for them to believe in themselves again. Pro To Col Sport Systems is as much a passion project as it is a business and I couldn’t have done it without all of the members and staff who believe in the vision of this place. Left foot, Right foot, creates forward movement.
