Meet Jill Anderson | Nerdy Wedding, Event, and Travel Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was both strategic and deeply personal — and at the center of it was my mom.
Professionally, I had built a solid career as a production manager in reality television. I was the person who turned big creative visions into executable realities – managing budgets, timelines, crews, contracts, and crises. I loved the orchestration of it all. I loved being the calm in the chaos. I loved building something from nothing. But I was always building someone else’s dream.
Then my mom was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. That moment shifted everything.
She told me she had two wishes: to see me get married, and to go on one final unforgettable adventure with our whole family. So I stepped into planning mode — but this time, it wasn’t for a network. It was for us.
Planning my own wedding, a deeply nerdy, story-driven celebration that reflected who my husband and I truly are, opened my eyes to how many couples feel pressure to fit into a mold. And planning our multigenerational family trip, knowing time was limited, made every decision feel weightier. More intentional. More meaningful. I wasn’t just coordinating logistics. I was curating memories.
And in that process, I had a realization: there was space for a business that combined high-level production strategy with heartfelt storytelling. A business that honored individuality. A business that treated weddings and travel not as transactions, but as milestones.
My mom’s illness forced me to confront something most of us avoid: that time isn’t guaranteed. One week after our family adventure, she passed away, having fulfilled her two final wishes.
That experience cemented my thought process. I didn’t want to go back to organizing someone else’s productions without channeling what I had just learned. I wanted to help other people celebrate now. Travel now. Gather now. Tell their stories now.
Starting my business wasn’t about chasing entrepreneurship for status. It was about building something that aligned with what mattered most to me: meaningful experiences, thoughtful execution, and the courage to celebrate life fully. Strategically, I approached it the way I approach any production. I researched the industry. I obtained certifications. I structured services. I built systems. I analyzed pricing models. I set up contracts and workflows. I made sure the foundation was strong. But emotionally, the decision was rooted in my mom.
Fantastical Adventures exists because I witnessed how powerful one wedding and one trip could be when they carry the weight of love, urgency, and intention. Her story is woven into my business. It’s the reason I care so deeply. It’s the reason I encourage clients not to postpone joy. And it’s the reason I treat every event and every trip like it truly matters — because it does.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Fantastical Adventures is a wedding planning and travel design company rooted in storytelling, intentionality, and high-level logistics. What sets me apart is that I approach every wedding and trip the way I approached television production: with structure, contingency plans, and precision, but always anchored in heart.
I specialize in nerdy, alternative, and deeply personalized celebrations. My clients don’t want cookie-cutter. They want meaning. They want their fandoms, cultures, and love stories woven thoughtfully into the experience. I help them do that in a way that feels elevated, cohesive, and true to them — not gimmicky.
Business-wise, getting here wasn’t overnight or easy. I transitioned from a stable production career into entrepreneurship while navigating one of the hardest seasons of my life – my mom’s illness and passing. I had to build systems from scratch, learn new industries, network relentlessly, show up consistently online, and earn trust one client at a time.
The biggest challenges were visibility and confidence – believing there was truly space for my niche. I overcame that by getting specific about who I serve and doubling down on education, relationships, and consistent delivery. I treated my business like a production: clear workflows, strong vendor partnerships, and a commitment to excellence.
The biggest lessons? Clarity attracts alignment. Community matters. And you can build something powerful when it’s rooted in purpose.
What I want the world to know about my brand is this: I care deeply. About your timeline. About your budget. About your story. About the fact that life is short and celebrations matter.
Fantastical Adventures isn’t just about planning events — it’s about producing moments that feel like you and are worth remembering.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Southern California for a full week, I would absolutely curate it like a production — a little magic, a little nature, incredible food, and just the right amount of chaos in the best way.
Here’s my dream SoCal itinerary:
Day 1: Classic LA Energy (Griffith Observatory, The Grove/LA Farmers Market, etc.)
Day 2: Hollywood & Studio Magic (WB Studio Tour, Academy Museum, Hollywood Walk of Fame)
Day 3: Beach Day
Day 4: Disneyland Day
Day 5: Desert Escape (Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, and Joshua Tree)
Day 6: La Jolla (Cove, Beach, and Theatre)
Day 7: San Diego Finale (SD Zoo, Gaslamp Quarter)
What Makes SoCal Special? For me, it’s the variety. In one week, you can:
Be on a movie studio lot.
Ride world-class attractions.
Hike mountains.
Lounge on the beach.
Road trip to the desert.
Experience multiple cultural neighborhoods.
Eat food from almost every corner of the world.
It’s creative. It’s chaotic. It’s scenic. It’s deeply diverse.
Southern California isn’t just one vibe — it’s twenty layered together. And if you plan it right (which, of course, I would), it feels like the ultimate adventure arc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and always, my shoutout goes to my mom. She is the reason this business exists.
I also have to recognize the incredible niche and alternative wedding vendor community I’ve found. Collaborating with creatives like HopeBoat Productions, Llena Vida Media, Flowers by Melis, With Love from Heidi, and so many others makes this work not only smoother, but so much more joyful. Being surrounded by vendors who celebrate individuality, storytelling, and doing things differently elevates every event.
And I’m deeply grateful to Wedding International Professionals Association (WIPA) — without that community, I wouldn’t have met many of these incredible collaborators.
My mom built the foundation. Community helped me grow. None of this happens in a vacuum — and I’m so thankful it doesn’t.
