We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Belvin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesse, how do you think about risk?
I actually love risk taking.

One of my favorite mini quotes in business and in life is that “You only need to be right once.”

That resonates so much for me.

I fell in love with trying different ventures.

When it comes to business, you do only need to be right once. But, being right multiple times is pretty cool too.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m one of the owners of Codewear Clothing.

Codewear was a popular San Diego based apparel line that we took over in 2020.

Lonnie Reams ran the business for years and before he passed away, wanted to see it in the hands of people who not only cared about the brand, but could help it grow.

My wife and I had multiple businesses, but have always been big fans of the brand.

Right now we’re locking down partnerships with retail stores, businesses, and bars all around the US, helping others represent their code.

I would say the biggest challenges we’ve faced were just the ones that came with running a t-shirt line. There’s different prints, strategies with marketing, and taking over a business that’s already had years of doing it a certain way, well, that made it challenging.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way are just to get out there and make things happen. Too often do we wait around for the perfect moment, only to find that there isn’t really a “perfect” time to get started. You kind of just have to get going, take your lumps, and move forward.

Codewear Clothing just makes people happy. Whenever I pass someone on the streets, or get a DM with someone rocking their code, its the best feeling in the world. They’re always smiling, and always look so excited to be wearing Codewear.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Love this question. We live in Mission Valley but have always felt home was in Pacific Beach. If I have friends in town visiting, I’m definitely taking them to Crushed on Garnett. Chicken parm sliders are the best. After that, head up to North PB where we can relax at the beach and hopefully catch an epic sunset.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my wife, Erika Belvin. She’s not only one of the smartest business minds I know, but she’s been my biggest fan since day one.

Every time I fall on my face, or fail on a project or idea, she’s there to show me support and motivates me to get back out there.

For every success I’ve had, there’s been 4-5 failures to go along with it.

No matter if we’re at the highest of highs or lowest of lows in life, she’s had my back.

There’s 0 chance I’d be where I’m at today without her.
