We had the good fortune of connecting with Jackson Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jackson, how do you think about risk?
I take risks every day, as we all do. It has taken me to both high and low places but I prefer that over treating life like a waiting room. I dedicate my time to creation then share it with the world. It is a beautiful thing and I’m grateful to be part of the process.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I write my life and let others listen to it. It’s as simple as that. I do it for me and it’s all real. If a listener likes it and can relate, that is only a bonus. I have struggled through alcoholism and drug abuse, homelessness, feelings so dark and scary I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy but I am here today, still breathing and following my bliss.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Every block through Los Angeles is exciting. You don’t need to plan a trip. The trip will be planned for you. Come out and immerse yourself in the eclectic culture. It’s a wonderful place.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My nana, Yvonne Nelson Perry, had been a guiding light forever. She was a renowned author who passed away last month from cancer at the age of 88. When everyone told me, “No”, she had my back. When the weight of the world was too much, she brought me back to earth by simply focusing on the work. She spoke her mind and it was a magnificent one indeed. All who entered her space, welcomed by genuine interest and all who challenged her in Scrabble, got their behind handed to them. Because of her, I seek excellence and because of her, I know it’s possible.
