We had the good fortune of connecting with Hayley Hanssler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hayley, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
One of my favorite quotes comes from the great Henry Ford.

“Faith without action is delusion. Faith does not wait for miracles but produces them. If you think you can or if you think you can’t, you are right.”

I think of this quote often whether I’m working on a project, struggling with a particular issue, or just planning out my next move. I remind myself that above all, I must have faith in who I am and what I’m doing. Having faith in myself puts me to work, allows me to be creative, and gives me the confidence needed to handle all the daily issues that life and business can throw at you.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Owning and operating two spin studios as a mother of two teenage girls is a big job to say the least. You learn to be extremely resourceful and creative with your time as you use every last minute of the day. The good news is that both studios are located in Orange County where I also live, which makes getting from home to work pretty simple.

From the start, I wanted to do two things; build the business up, while keeping it within the perimeters of what a boutique fitness studio is. Next, I wanted to build a strong community within the fitness industry; one that would give people a fun and exciting way to get fit, at an inviting place where they’d feel accepted and praised for their hard work. I’m proud to say that with the help of my amazing staff and instructors (I like to call them Orange County’s finest) we’ve accomplished exactly that. Did this happen over night? No, I’m fortunate to say it did not. If success came easy, I wouldn’t have learned nearly enough.

Immediately upon opening the Tustin location, I wanted to get the word out that there was a new spin studio in town. I’m old fashioned, so I did things the old fashioned way, I just started talking to people. A lot of people! If at any time my uncomfortable shyness got the best of me, I gave myself a little time to grow and I set out again. I knew I had to overcome my insecurities if I was going to build a place in the community. As I look back, I recall how I personally went to over 300 businesses, reached out to every school and school district in a 20 mile radius, talked to restaurant managers, parents, teachers, attended health and wellness fairs, all in the first year of opening. All of this led to one of the things I’m most excited about…fundraising. I’m blessed that bike2thebeat is able to connect fitness with fundraising and we proudly participate in over 75 fundraisers each year, including charity rides, all for really great causes!

Now 6 1/2 years and two studios later, I can say I’m proud of everything my team and I have accomplished together. Building a business has taught me that I need to give myself space to learn and grow. It’s taught me that mistakes should be made and they’re a necessary ingredient in business and in life. It’s taught me to work hard, but take breaks to allow for the creativity to come through. Yes, there’s more work to do. There always will be. But I’m here for it and I’m so proud to be a part of the fitness community in the OC!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hahahaha I love this one. Okay, if my best friend was coming, she’d be arriving from Idaho. Here’s the itinerary.

First she would have to sign up for a few spin classes, lol, because, why not?!

Most of what we would do would be along the coast, where I love to spend much of my time.

Breakfasts would include bike rides to one of the many eateries in Corona del Mar.

Lunches on the go with shopping trips to South Coast Plaza and downtown Corona del Mar.

We’d definitely need to leave time for a day of antique/vintage shopping in Old Town Orange.

Happy hour and dinner at places like Las Brisas or the Ranch in Laguna Beach. Or Houston’s in Irvine or Banderas in Corona Del Mar for some of the best ribs ever!

Let’s pass on Disneyland, but insist on a Home tour in one of the beautiful neighborhoods that grace Orange County. Or a little further away into Pasadena.

Finally, live music is a must. So either a concert at the Pacific Amphitheatre or into Los Angeles for live music at one of the best concert venues, The Greek Theatre.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout goes to my friend and mentor Jimmy Vallone.
