We had the good fortune of connecting with George Tadros and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi George, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
For us, the most difficult decision was to take the risk of starting a business on our own, without having formal experience in this line of work. It’s very stressful to leave the comfort of a career position and take a leap of faith into a new venture. For me personally, the most overwhelming decision was to make the choice to leave my career in IT that spanned over 25 years and take on this new venture. I was a VP of IT and had a great career but it wasn’t my passion anymore. We had started West Lane Company in 2018 and was a part-time effort as we were both juggling full-time roles. About 6 months ago, I had the discussion with my wife to focus on West Lane Company and leave my IT career. I remember telling her that, “I should quit today,” but was waiting for a sign to make it clear. I woke up one morning and looked at my calendar and I was triple-booked for meetings from 5AM to 7PM every day of the week. I made the decision that this would be the last day for me in the consulting role that I was in. I made the appropriate calls and remember hanging up the phone. I had done it…. and it was very scary to think that I had just ended my IT career of 25 years.
West Lane Company was now my full time focus and the entrepreneurial itch I had was now my career. I haven’t looked back since.

What should our readers know about your business?
West Lane Company was formed in early 2018 as a consulting firm that was primarily focused on technology. When the pandemic hit in early 2019, we were in the process of remodeling our current home and were sharing our progress via Instagram. Both Michelle and I have always had a passion for everything home decor and remodeling as we have been doing that for family and friends for over 20 years and my experience dates back to my childhood when my parents were remodeling homes. As the pandemic hit, we found ourselves at a fork in the road and decided to pivot to do what we love most and transformed West Lane Company into what it is today…. a full-service remodeling and design firm. We cater to all residential and commercial property renovations, design and decor needs by offering an easy solution for clients to navigate through the process of remodeling and design.

We take the pain of trying to identify the many different design options by sourcing and vetting products that we can stand behind. We put ourselves in our client’s position by identifying and using products that we would personally use. Our decades of experience helping friends and families with remodeling and design projects has taught us so much as we have built our knowledge through this process.

What sets us apart from others is that we have our experience of Information Technology and Client Relations backgrounds to leverage and create a great support structure for clients as they go through their projects with us. By providing detailed information to track project costs and also great relationships with many vendors and suppliers, we’re able to provide a one-stop solution that is catered to the client’s needs. We handle everything from conceptual design, mood boards, product sourcing, renderings and also act as a liaison between the client and contractors to manage the project from inception to completion. Our project management expertise allows us to coordinate every step of the process for the client and minimizes the headache of trying to manage a project on their own, while trying to manage their career/job and family obligations. Most projects are a full-time role and we help take that on for them.

The one thing that we seem to hear about is the difficulty in dealing with contractors and navigating the demand that is needed to get a project to completion. We’ve heard this from clients and non-clients and we wanted to make sure that we were able to handle that portion for our projects.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since we’re located in the heart of Southern California, there is so much to do and see. We have beaches nearby as well as amusement parks such as DisneyLand to visit. Some of my favorite places to share with guests involve a variety of spots. First, I would venture down to San Diego where we have amazing places such as La Jolla, Torrey Pines and Coronado. A boat ride that tours the harbor gives you amazing views of the war ships that are docked down south while allowing you to enjoy the beautiful ocean breeze. As you head north, a visit to Carlsbad is needed. To me, it’s a hidden gem as the pace is slower there but the beaches and ocean views are so nice. Heading further north, you end up in Orange County where there is so much to see and do. A drive to the Mission in San Juan Capistrano is a great way to experience the historical culture of the region. It’s a great place to dine and they have a great winery where you can just hang out and enjoy the various offerings there. As you head to Anaheim, we have two great areas to visit: The Anaheim Packing District and nearby is the famous Anaheim White House restaurant. The Packing District offers a very eclectic variety of food offerings and for a more elegant evening, the Anaheim White House restaurant offers amazing meals. One hidden gem to me is the city of San Clemente. It has a great little beach town feel and isn’t as busy as the other well-known locations such as Huntington Beach or Laguna. As you venture north to Los Angeles County, you definitely have to stop in Hollywood and visit some of the main studios. As you approach the evening hours, you should definitely head to the Griffith Observatory. As you make your way up the hills to reach the observatory, you will find yourself in front of a architecturally beautiful building that looks amazing both inside and out. When it gets dark, the views from the hilltop are unbelievable!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to send a huge Shoutout to my wife, Michelle, who is the reason that our business is successful and also for supporting me during my career path transition. Without her support, dedication, relationship-building and social media presence, our business would have never been this successful.
