We had the good fortune of connecting with Gennifer Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gennifer, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Our blog is all about celebrating everything California has to offer, and so much of what defines this state comes from small businesses, artisans and entrepreneurs. In our guides we create content for wanderlust travelers, foodie enthusiasts and healthy living gurus. We carefully curate which products, brands and travel accommodations to promote, focusing on small businesses and giving back to the communities. Our lifestyle blog provides our readers easy and stylish and ways to spend their time and money locally.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
While technically my title is content creator / blogger, I consider myself to be a visual storyteller with the mission to inspire and engage others. Some of our blog posts are about traveling to grand destinations, while others are focused on small but significant moments inside our home. We use a combination of photography and personal anecdotes to create narrative that others enjoy reading. Having into a window to see into someone else’s human experiences can really benefit others who are having a parallel journey. The challenge in having this kind of career is deciding how much, when or if to share the not so wonderful stuff that comes in life. It can also be difficult to get into a creative space when life’s obstacles are weighing you down and you feel stuck in a negative situation. My own personal approach to this dilemma is I won’t share anything with my audience until I’ve come to some sort of positive resolution. I want to tell the whole story as honestly as I can, but give the reader the full picture from beginning to end. Hopefully I will be able to provide some insights and helpful advice along the way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have many San Diego city guides on the blog from all of our urban exploring. I actually had a friend come visit for a week and she’s a photography shutterbug just like me. Her one request was that I take her to places that have many beautiful photo opportunities. My week of playing tour guide included: – A hike up to Potato Chip Rock. – Lunch and shopping in North Park. – Beach day in La Jolla. – A second beach day at Coronado. – A rooftop diner to watch the sunset at the Mission Beach Boardwalk. – Dinner and cocktails in Little Italy. – A trip to the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout dedication would definitely go to my husband, who has been on this journey with me since day 1. When I told him that I wanted to start a blog documenting our travel adventures, he was onboard to help me create the content that would eventually become the blog. He’s the man behind the camera in most of our photos, the worker bee without the glory. The majority of his days off from work are spent assisting me with creative projects. He’s a vital part of our partnership and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for helping me make my dreams come true.
