We had the good fortune of connecting with Fabi Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Fabi, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started Brigachero I didn’t think that I needed a day off. That adrenaline of starting something new and wanting to turn everything I had on my mind into reality, made me extremely overwhelmed overtime, I was literally burnt out, since I am the one doing EVERYTHING. It was very hard for me to understand that I day off is just as important as all the hustle. Now, I force myself to take one day off, where I do not do anything work related. Do not answer any emails, text, do not even think about work (ok, i am not there yet but working on it)…
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When I decided to launch Brigachero I thought about selling something beyond brigadeiros. I wanted to create cute merchandise to go along with my brand. I am a huge fan of all things cute and always dreamt of having my own line. It was not easy. I had so many things in my mind that I wanted to put into practice. I’ve made so many mistakes. Looking back, it makes me laugh, but it was hard, especially to admit that you were wrong, that you could have done it differently, or in a better way. I honestly think that it’s never easy to start something new, to get out of your comfort zone but it has been worth it. Despite all the struggles I still have tons of fun and this is what keeps me moving towards my goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve recently moved to Napa (almost 3 years ago), I have always loved Napa. So I would take a friend For a walk in. downtown, get my favorite empanadas at Le Paris. Head over to Crossfit. Take my dogs on a short hike while I meditate. Have lunch at the wine train and go for a beer at Cadet. Maybe a show at Blue Note at night followed by dinner at Bistro Don Giovanni.
I guess I just described an ideal date lol
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
