We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily villedieu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
There is no giving up. I can’t give up. I have told myself that every day for awhile now. I’m a firm believer in “Life is what you make it”, and if you love something enough, no matter what has gotten in your way, you pursue it. The way I see it is society takes peoples various failures or life changes as a way of settling or giving up but to me it’s just adapting to the foundations you are being given.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’d say Photography & Producing media are my biggest artistic talents. I know what you’re thinking…. “Production? Artistic??”. Well, yeah, producing is/can be artistic. Being a producer means you are the foundation of the project that is being executed. You get to help the writer, director, videographer, etc. bring their vision to life. There have been lots of times where I doubted myself, was doubted by others, & almost gave up, but I love getting to hear peoples ideas and find ways to make it a reality. Other peoples passion for projects & seeing the joy bringing it to life gives to them overpowers any doubt I’ve had in myself. To me that is art & I’m proud and thankful for all the projects I have been involved in. Photography has also had a huge impact on my career. Though I have been in media production for almost 6 years, and a professional photographer for only 1.5 years. I feel photography is my calling. I’m so thankful and excited to use both of these skills in my future endeavors with my own projects & with projects within Rising Tides Creative. In the end, I want people to know with me they will always get 100%.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so much stuff that makes San Diego special. The historic areas and various nature trails are some of my favorite places to go. It’s not just your standard vacation city… There are beautiful mountains (some snowy during winter), Forrests, deserts, beaches, all within an hour or less of the main city. I’ve lived here my entire life & still have things to discover. Some of my favorite food spots are The Corner Drafthouse, Cali Comfort BBQ, Bier Garden of Encinitas, Mariettas Santee, Sushi Kuchi, Brothers Family Restaurant, & Picante Taqueria.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family & friends have had so much to do with the drive that I have. Their support along with my daughter, is the main fuel that keeps me going.
