We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellen Im and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ellen, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the lasting relationships we have with our patients is the key to the success of the practice. Being a mother, I wanted a practice where parents would feel comfortable bringing their children. My team and I believe that open and honest communication establishes a foundation of comfort and trust which we use to build rapport with families. I think families appreciate the care and sincerity in our interactions. Though it’s our goal to ensure good oral health for our patients, being able to see our patients grow up is equally rewarding.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Dr. Ellen Im Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we appreciate the uniqueness of each child and provide personalized quality dental care in a warm, family-oriented, kid-friendly environment. We have a wonderful team whose goal is to make every visit comfortable, fun, and educational. One way we accomplish this is by offering “comfort menus” where the child has their choice of protective sunglasses, a movie to watch, and anxiety-reducing items such as stress balls, warm blankets, and/or stuffed animals. The practice offers a full range of services with state of the art dentistry equipment such as digital radiographs, tooth-colored fillings/crowns, laser dentistry, teeth whitening, and nitrous oxide or sedation dentistry. We also have an amazing orthodontist, Dr. Torin Chenard, who treats both children and adults with options such as Invisalign and traditional braces. Further, we offer the convenience of family appointments (no separate appointments for siblings), emergency care for new and existing patients, free orthodontic consultations, and an in-house dental plan (discounted dentistry for patients with no dental insurance). We love to extend our care by improving the lives of youths outside the practice throughout community outreach. We give fun and interactive oral hygiene presentations to local schools, offer free dental screenings and complimentary hygiene kits, and provide pro bono care to deserving individuals. For non-dental related support, we sponsor youth sports and local schools, support our troops, and donate to worthy nonprofits such as the Girl Scouts, Hope for San Diego, and other local charities.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since my best friend likes the outdoors, I’d take her to some of the wonderful beaches and hiking trails San Diego has to offer. I’d take her to Coronado Beach and lounge at Hotel del Coronado sipping smoothies from Northside Shack. We’d also go to Torrey Pines State Park and hike the Guy Fleming Trail to work up an appetite for Board & Brew in Del Mar. We’d enjoy brunch at George’s at the Cove before walking it off at La Jolla Shores. For something local and more challenging, we’d spend a day hiking the Mount Woodson Trail, have our picture taken on top of Potato Chip Rock, and reenergize at GreensPlease. For relaxation, we’d visit museums in Balboa Park, eat apple pie at Julian, and sip cocktails at the Pony Room in Rancho Santa Fe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I sincerely appreciate the support of my family, friends, and patients, but the person I appreciate the most is my husband, Jim. He is a devoted partner who always been my anchor. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his love and support.
