We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Brave and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I wanted to help others through my work, at least in part, so I gravitated towards working with nonprofits and some volunteerism.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart is my desire to help nonprofits stay afloat. I am an expert in that area and can share lots of information outside of bookkeeping to support them.

It has been challenging to grow my business. Covid didn’t help that, because many small business owners couldn’t operate or afford to continue.

The biggest lesson I have learned is network, network, network. Be a resource for all kinds of connections and share them.

Generate good will by offering your time to advise people for free. A consultation is vital to other’s comfort around their own business situation.

Be willing to recognize when you are not a “good fit”, and refer a potential client to someone else!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
San Diego is a beautiful city. All of the great tourist sites are wonderful: Balboa Park, our beaches, neighborhoods and restaurants. Rent a car and drive up the coast, or get on a train and do a round trip that way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is to my family first, for all of their support. On the business side, I would like to thank Bonnie Winn, a fellow bookkeeper, who inspired me to go out on my own and operate a business.
