We had the good fortune of connecting with Dean Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dean, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by all things 1970’s. That era was truly the epitome of all things glamourous. To this today when I storyboard for fashion editorials and ad campaigns names like Ungaro, Yves Saint Laurent, and Halston are commonly referenced. I say “True style lies in the details” and during that time there was no detail left spared. My inspiration is also sourced from the music of that time from groups like Bee Gees, Diana Ross, Elton John, Eagles, Labelle, and more. I’d go so far as to say that the 70’s was the first time period that really embodied a lifestyle.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m an Image Consultant and have been doing so for just about 10yrs. Currently I’m most excited about getting my men’s style guide out this by the beginning of 2021. Starting a fashion business in San Diego wasn’t the easiest but it was through partnering with local boutiques, attending events, and pushing myself that I was able to make my dream come true. Patience is something that I learned early on as well as every opportunity is not for you and that saying “no” is an important part of growth. When people hear Image Consultant they think of someone trying to change how you look, but in all actuality it’s about project the image your desire and I just translate your wardrobe into that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Breakfast is happening at Morning Glory for sure (soufflé pancakes are a must) followed by some epic matcha at my good friend’s place, Holy Matcha. I love outdoor activities so it’s Torrey Pines Trail and Potato Chip Rock for some light jogging and hiking. The Birch Aquarium is a must as well as The Museum of Contemporary Art and Liberty Station. Cocktails are happening at Raised By Wolves, Amaya at The Fairmount and my favorite speakeasy Noble Experiment. Dinner at The Pony Room.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Leslie Marcus is a phenomenal TV producer for The Doctors in LA who first gave me a chance on morning TV and helped to groom me. She’s such a bad ass!!
