We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Schwarz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Before moving to the US, I founded and sold a catering startup in Mexico. I then moved to NY, then CA, working in corporate America for 10 years – all while constantly craving my hometown flavors. I am passionate about Mexico and I’m very happy living in the US, so it couldn’t be more fitting to bring something from home to home.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

CHUZA is spicing up the snacking game with a range of spicy dry fruits (spicy mango, pineapple, cranberry, apricot, and strawberry), vegetable (nopal /cactus) and a standalone chili seasoning.

CHUZA was made with culture in mind. From the outside, our packaging takes inspiration from the Mayan pyramids, and the bold colors and minimalist style are inspired by a renowned Mexican Architect Luis Barragan. From the inside, our authentic flavors are representative of Mexico, where 100% of our spices are sourced locally, without adding any colors or flavors.

We are on a mission of sharing our flavors, culture and flair! With our range of spicy snacks.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still exploring San Diego myself, but it would definitely include hiking (Annie’s Canyon, Torrey Pines), a great brunch (Claire’s on Sedros, Parkeet), time at the beach, and if they have young kids as we do, a stop at the Children’s Museum. Some other great food spots we go to are The Taco Stand and Viewpoint Brewery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that I have leaned on who have been willing to share their feedback and support. The first were my wife, parents, and specifically my in-laws where we lived for 9 months while creating CHUZA. I have found great support from Naturally San Diego, Ari Raz (Once Upon A Farm), Sioma Waisburd (Chosen Foods) and Miguel Leal (SOMOS Foods) and many others that believe in our mission and love our product.
