We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristyn Chandler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristyn, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Everything has slowed down during this pandemic, hasn’t it? What an incredible time in our lives that we get to really do a deep dive into what is important and what isn’t. I’ve always made sure my life was balanced between work and fun. I worked in an office for 18 years and that was “work”. The minute I left the pavement, I didn’t think about work again until I drove back in. A year ago, I quit my jobby job to pursue my passion of acting. What a leap! I left a full time salary with health benefits, a 401K, vacation time -all for an unknown and basically extremely difficult career. Since then, the balance has shifted exponentially. Now my “work” is my “fun”. I am completely whole doing what I love. The days are spent looking for the next acting gig, going to classes, doing self-tapes, practicing acting, an occasional theater show and then the boring stuff, like grocery shopping! Today, even in this pandemic, even in this quarantine, even in this hell of a year that is 2020, I am completely balanced.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am really serious about my career as an actress, so I work all day long to make it happen. However, the end goal isn’t to necessarily to be a household name. Everything I do is stepping stone to becoming the best actress I can be-to be proud of my work. I want to look back and say, “I worked really hard on this and it shows.” And hopefully my work touches some people as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Being an actress is a pretty self-consumed profession. My auditions. My headshots. My commercial. My play. I am fully aware of what it’s like to be around someone so busy with themselves! That said, I want to shoutout my friends and family members for all the help they have provided and encouragement. Friends that come over late at night to help with an audition or didn’t get mad when I had to cancel plans last minute because of a gig, or family members that share my short film to their friends-these are the people that keep me going. I strive to be a better more considerate person just being around them. So, thank you!
