We had the good fortune of connecting with Christoph Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christoph, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Vizfinder.com was created to provide an intuitive, visually pleasing and reliable marine forecast. People have grown accustomed to mediocre weather forecasting websites that are bogged down with advertisements and bloat. We use our years of professional experience on the water in southern California combined with next-level data analytics to create weather forecasts that are accurate so that anyone heading out on the water can have the information they need to make safe and productive decisions.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Vizfinder is the product of over 40 years of time spent on and under the water in socal. We arrived in this place by dedicating our lives to the ocean and studying it. When you study the ocean you spend countless hours on it and immersed in it. Our team has logged thousands of dives and hundreds of hours on the water. With that experience has come knowledge of how weather impacts marine conditions. Has it been easy? Hell no. We’ve experienced too many zero visibility, gale force, big swell days to count. However, those negative experiences have been great learning experiences that have helped to bolster our algorithms and forecasts. Nothing good comes without work. Our hope is that our users reap the fruits of our hard-work without having to take the hard-knocks that led us here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would load up the cooler and immediately head out to the Channel Islands. We would likely start at Catalina Island for some guaranteed good dive visibility and warm water. After that, we’d probably head out to Santa Barbara Island to dive the underwater arch on the south side of the island. That’s an epic dive. From there, it would be fishing and diving our way up to Santa Cruz Island and eventually west to San Miguel Island to hit that cold water California current system.

Vizfinder isn’t about the best restaurant in the city. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. It’s about finding the best experiences far away from the city, where nobody can find or bother you. Just you, some friends and the fish. Don’t forget the wasabi.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Vizfinder is a collaborative effort that would not have happened without the dedication of our team of fishermen, biologists, data scientists, programmers, boaters and divers. Every member brings a specialty that adds tremendous value to the website and it’s goal of providing the most accurate and intuitive marine forecasts in Southern California.
