We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Kat, Nathan Foley, Aspene Taylor, Isaiah Johnson, Brandon Holt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe Kat, Nathan Foley, Aspene Taylor, Isaiah Johnson, Brandon Holt-(not present for this one), is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Aspene: The most important things I’ve learned is friendships are everything, try your hardest to be a good person, and do good business. Knowledge is infinite, so always be willing to be a patient student and a teacher. This is actually a marathon not a sprint. Find you a team and stick together. Nobody actually did anything by themselves. Nathan: The most important things I’ve learned thus far is that things don’t need to hit immediately, time is a factor but not a ‘be all’ element. Hard work and potent rest bring results. Kat: I have learned that clear communication and mutual respect can solve most problems. It is important to envision group goals in collaboration with others in order to see from multiple points of view (big picture). When everyone feels equally valued in a creative space, everyone continually shows up to the table with their own gift to share. All of our gifts are of equal value. Isaiah: For real, patience is key and be you no matter what.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Kat: Kat Milk Blu is a family of artists. We work together and talk everything through. We vote on every big decision and hear each other out. Each of us has a different strength and a different instrument or skill we’ve cultivated for our whole lives. When we get on stage, these skills blend and unify. Five as One within the musical vibration. Our art is evolving as we mature. It’s always becoming. We’ve been a band for almost 8 years now. Being a band in Los Angeles is our newest chapter and it sure is a lot different from our Nashville chapter, especially with covid in the way of this past year. We got to where we are now by believing in one another and not doubting the vision or the feeling that the music provides for each of us. There have been many obstacles and challenges that have come between us, but we have learned to support and love one another through all of that. Love is patient and kind. Even when living in different cities came between us, we found ways to work and manifest our goals together. Faith in the power of the music is what has kept us committed. I am most proud of and excited for the evolution of our music which will be reflected on our next EP. Aspene: My art is based off of happiness and purity. What sets us apart from most is the bond that we have created. Our band is more than just the music. Music brought us together but life has kept us together. I’m very excited to also see what the future lies for KMB, with our music, business, family, and personal lives. The most important thing about any challenges one may go through is to never forget your WHY. Also remember why you are doing something and it will always push you through. Go with time. Never try to control it because you can’t. Nate: My art is based in nature re-presenting the supernatural. I’m looking forward to Kat Milk Blu’s next several releases, the outfit has grown and expanded its horizon. I’ve gotten to where I am today professionally through the lessons I’ve learned and challenges I’ve faced. God is One, persistent consistency is the key, love is a decision of simple complexity. Request what you want; the worst thing someone can say is “no”. My brand is outside of time and my story has already been told. All are welcome to participate.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Beach! Venice Boardwalk/Skatepark. No venues are open, but we have enjoyed playing at the Troubadour on Sunset Blvd and Hotel Cafe in Hollywood, Roscoes Chicken n Waffles, La Playita are great dining experiences.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Kat: My family first and foremost have always believed in my music and have been encouraging and supportive of Kat Milk Blu. My music teachers always pushed me in the direction of my dreams. I felt very encouraged by other musicians at a young age. Jamie Wollam was the first person in the music industry to really believe in my songwriting. Debra Baum managed my music career from a young age too, which led me to Nashville to pursue a degree and career in music. Nashville is where I met all the KMB fellas and it’s really where we had our start. We are thankful for all of our people in Nashville who came to all our shows and showed us love. I want to thank all my friends in Nashville for supporting us and providing a beautiful musical community to grow and thrive in. Shout out to my brothers in KMB for always having my back and supporting my growth in every way. Isaiah: First shout out to God then mom, brother, sis and grandparents. Without them I wouldn’t be me and shout-out y’all. Shout Kanye west for motivating me to be where I am. Nate: Shout out to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior to whom my life is dedicated. To She3 of Mocha music, my crown. To my parents who raised me well. Betty Scott & Strathmore Music Center, John Pell, and Eric Ulreich who taught me well. To the greatest guitar players to ever live: Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Eddie Hazel, and George Benson. Also shout out to everybody in the struggle, we out here. Aspene: Shout out to the almighty Heavenly Father God. Secondly a huge shout out to the love of my life my beautiful wife. Giving all love and thanks to my amazing family. My mother, father, brother, and sister. Thanks to Ricky Jarrett for always believing in me and never giving up on teaching me and showing me piano. Last but not least. I would like to give a huge shoutout to KatMilkBlu if it wasn’t for meeting all 4 of you I would most definitely not be where I am today. Love, peace, and blessings.
