Meet Cheyenne Zambrano | Founder & Creative Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheyenne Zambrano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cheyenne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The concept behind Oside Jewelry is deeply personal and rooted in nostalgia. Growing up in California, I was surrounded by my mother’s 1970s-era jewelry—pieces full of character, thoughtful craftsmanship, and an attention to detail that left a lasting impression on me. She made and sold her own jewelry when I was young, and we often created pieces together. That early hands-on experience, paired with a metalworking class I took in high school, sparked a lifelong love for the craft and ultimately inspired me to launch Oside Jewelry.
After moving from California to the mountains of Utah and then back again—this time to the beach town of Oceanside—I found myself craving jewelry that could keep up with my lifestyle. I’m constantly on the move, whether it’s heading to the gym, working, swimming in the ocean, or going out with friends. I needed pieces that were lifeproof: waterproof, sweat-proof, tarnish-resistant, and hypoallergenic. When I couldn’t find jewelry that met all those needs and felt stylish, I decided to make it myself.
Oceanside wasn’t just where the company began—it was also a huge source of inspiration for our waterproof, active-lifestyle focus. That’s why I named the brand O’side, as a nod to the town that helped shape its vision. From the beginning, my goal has been to create jewelry that is not only beautiful and unique, but also durable and affordable. Each piece is crafted with 18k gold plating over a stainless steel base—two metals that bond exceptionally well for lasting quality and hypoallergenic wear. And just like my mother, who often wore pieces made from natural materials, I’ve continued that tradition through the use of genuine pearls in all of our designs.
As a brand rooted in coastal living, protecting our oceans is also close to my heart. That’s why we donate $1 from every sale to ocean conservation efforts—giving back to the environment that inspires so much of what we create.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Before launching Oside Jewelry, I was working as a finance manager at a car dealership. The long hours and desk job lifestyle were starting to take a toll on my body, and I knew I wanted to create something of my own—something that allowed me more freedom, creativity, and alignment with who I am. With my background in jewelry making from a young age, I decided to take a leap and turn that early passion into a brand.
I started Oside Jewelry with a clear vision: to build a beautiful, durable, lifeproof jewelry line that could be run 100% online. My husband and I love to travel, and creating a business that gave us the flexibility to spend more time together on the road was a huge part of the dream. Of course, I quickly realized that launching a website doesn’t automatically bring in sales—I had to hit the pavement and join local markets. While I really enjoy connecting with customers in-person, my long-term goal is still to transition fully online. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is patience. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and every step—every slow season, every learning curve—has shaped my resilience and direction.
What sets Oside Jewelry apart is the intention behind every piece. Travel is a major source of inspiration for my designs. My husband and I share a passion for exploring new places, and many of our pieces are born from those experiences. One of my favorites is the El Rastro Charm Necklace, inspired by the iconic street market in Madrid, Spain. I saw a piece there with three metal circles and envisioned expanding on it—adding more circles and inlaying them with shell to bring in a beachy, coastal vibe that reflects our brand’s identity. Even the smallest details matter: like our signature palm tree and ocean logo, which I turned into a tail charm so that when your necklace flips (as they always do), you’re left with a cute drop-down pendant instead of a boring plain chain end. Designing pieces that are both functional and beautifully intentional is one of the parts I enjoy most.
Ultimately, I want the world to know that Oside Jewelry is rooted in real life—movement, memory, meaning. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about feeling empowered in pieces that are as adventurous, resilient, and vibrant as the people who wear them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re staying in Oceanside, start downtown. Walk the pier, stroll the Strand, and grab tacos and a beer at Craft Coast Tacos (pro tip: always order them Craft Coast Style). If you’re craving fish tacos or a poke bowl, head to Shoots Fish & Beer—the poke taco is my favorite, and their beer selection is solid.
If it’s a Thursday, don’t miss the Sunset Market—tons of incredible food vendors, live music, and local makers (including us!). Oceanside is also filled with vibrant street murals and creative public art. One must-see spot is Artist Alley, where you’ll often find us popping up among other local artists and makers.
For drinks with a view, head to the Rooftop Bar at Mission Pacific Hotel overlooking the pier. But if you’re serious about your cocktails, sneak next door to The Shore Room at the Seabird Hotel—same stunning views, next-level bartenders. Frankie’s is another downtown favorite with craft cocktails and a cozy O’side vibe.
If you’re a sushi lover like me and like to make it yourself, visit Oceanside Harbor. It’s super cute, with little shops and has the Harbor Pelican Deli & Fish Market, where you can grab ultra-fresh, sashimi-grade fish to take home.
If you’re up for a quick drive down the coast, my husband and I are obsessed with Kai Ola Sushi in Leucadia. We’re so hooked that we even went there the night we got married and sat right at the sushi bar. It’s got a relaxed locals vibe, and the pro move is always to ask the chefs for a special—you won’t be disappointed. Even though they now have a location in Carlsbad we will still drive the extra time to the OG location.
Craving Italian? All Mine is the spot for amazing pizza and pasta. Or maybe some Thai food? Rim Talay is always good.
Coffee fans, you’re spoiled for choice—Communal, Revolution Coffee Roasters, Vigilante, Camp Coffee, Steady State Roasters, and Interim Coffee are all worth a visit.
And if wine’s your thing, Paon Wine Bar & Restaurant in Carlsbad is a gem for excellent pours and polished plates. Personally, I pick the wine bar side for a more laid back vibe with live music.
For something sweet, 1022 Café and Gelateria in Oceanside has amazing gelato. And if you’re willing to drive to Encinitas—maybe even after Kai Ola—swing by Gelati & Pecati (also known as G&P Diner) for another scoop of gelato perfection.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my friends and family, who’ve always shown up—whether in person or by supporting through online sales and offered endless words of encouragement. I’m also incredibly grateful to the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for their free mentorship programs and one-on-one coaching, which have been instrumental in helping me grow Oside Jewelry. And of course, none of this would be possible without my amazing customers! Their continued support means everything to me.
