We had the good fortune of connecting with Cesar Andre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cesar, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance is truly the key to everything, Everything! When there is balance, everything works. A long time ago I was photographing a car for Tequila Patron’s NHRA race team, this is a car that had 10,000 horse power and did 0 to 300mph in 3 seconds, and was so loud, it was a complete bodily experience watching this thing pass by. While at lunch break on the shoot, I was chatting with one of the techs for the car and he told me that those huge rear wheels in the back spin so fast that if he were to tape a dime to the inside of the wheel, the slight imbalance would become so great when the wheel was in full spin that it would rip the wheel off the car while going down the track. Un knowingly that tech gave me a very valuable lesson that I still use to this day. The faster you intend on spinning or higher you intend to climb success wise, the more critical your own imbalances will become, the forces of those imbalances at those levels will be so great that they will destroy you. If you want to be better at your business you will need to become proportionally better at all other aspects of your life, family, health, spiritual, emotional, financial, phisical, social and the list goes on. There is so many examples of successful people that have ended their lives because their life was so bad that no measure of success could compensate. Do not neglect balance.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I currently have a photo and film production company called Reve Studios. We love making images and advertising, it’s such a fast moving field and provides many opportunities to get creative and innovate. I started out drawing in kindergarten, then got into music in middle school, started building things in High School, got into photography when I got married, and fast forward to present day here we are working on TV commercials and print ads. My advice is this, every business is different, march to the beat of your own drum, don’t compare and don’t compromise.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
San Diego is my favorite spot, all of it. I truly feel its the best place to live and work. as I mentioned before, it’s all about the balance and in my eyes San Diego has it all. Weather, beaches, architecture, food, proximity to other cool stuff, yeah what else do you want?
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The real credit belongs to the one who created all things. Also a big thanks to everyone who has been part of my life and helped me along the way, because one thing is for sure, I could not do what I do alone.
