We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Arancibia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our encouraging words, listening ears, hugs and high fives make a big difference in the lives of the students we serve. The summer of 2020 magnified our society’s tremendous need for collective healing. As elementary school teachers, we knew that it was our time to love on our students because that is what we do. But how to do this from a distance? What we needed was love, sweet love—self love, more specifically—and our hope was that this project would empower our students to do just that: radically love themselves and teach their community how they can also radically love themselves.

Out of this hope and dream the High Tech Elementary Chula Vista (HTECV) Feel Good Company was born. 3rd grade students become experts in self- love and would share their expertise with the community through a student- led business. The first semester of this project focused on how students can learn to love every part of their identity. The second semester focused on learning tools and techniques that one needs for self- care. Some of the tools and techniques that students learned were mindful journaling, identifying things that bring you joy and doing more of it, setting intentions for you want to be, positive self- talk, tapping, sounds baths, mindful breathing, gemstone healing, exercising, dancing, and many big emotion coping techniques. After learning self- love tools and techniques students wanted to share them with their community and the curation of our self- love boxes came to fruition. Our goal was to become a 3rd grade team of experts in self- love. Our mission is to change the world by spreading love, teaching about feel good tools and creating happiness! We decided that through a student- led business would we be able to share, teach and spread love to our community. At the same time students would empower themselves by having entrepreneurial learning experience where they could learn more about themselves, each other, the world, and their own entrepreneurial mindset and skillset. As teachers we wanted our students to be and feel empowered as an act of self- love.

A local non- profit organization Real World Scholars that supports to start a student-run business and connect student learning to the world in radically authentic ways. Real World Scholars received word of our project and funded us $500 as seed money to begin our business and provided us entrepreneur support along the way. Our supports included logo design, creating a social media marketing plan, building our website, product development, creating a business name, setting goals, defining our mission, and many more to guide us along the way.

Another business partnership was formed with a metaphysical supply store in Los Angeles called Mostly Angels. Julian Sambrano, the owner met with students and showed them some of the items that were sold in his store that could be added to their box. Through critique and revision of our original box a new version of our box emerged and included pieces that would stimulate all five senses and additions from the Mostly Angels store.

The HTeCV Feel Good Company sells self- love boxes, feel good jars, and affirmation decks. Our self- love boxes have two different editions the luxury box and an essential box. Students were mindful that the luxury box may not be in everyones price ranges so they developed a more economical box called the essential box.

Self- love boxes includes all the goods. This box was created to relax, stimulated your 5 sense and make you feel good. The box includes… feel good jar with over 20 tools and techniques to be at peace and bring you joy, an affirmation deck with 72 cards with words of feel good wisdom, a box of incense, a journal with self- love writing prompts, chocolates to stimulate your taste buds, a be candle to make a BE wish, 3 healing gem stones, and a curated feel good spotify playlist.

Feel good jars are jars that have 24 different tools that make you feel good when you are feeling stressed, sad, angry, or any big emotions that’s bringing you down. The jar is filled with papers that teach you feel good techniques that have been tried and proven by us to make you feel better. All you do is shake your jar and pull out a techniques and hopefully it makes a your day bright again.

Affirmation deck includes 72 cards with words of wisdom from HTeCV feel good company 3rd grade students that will touch, move, and inspire you.

Through our student led business and community partnerships students were able to raise $1500 to donate to the Monarch School, a school whose students are impacted by homelessness. HTeCV Feel Good Company students thought that students at the Monarch school may experience big emotions and could benefit from the their companies products. This year students of the HTeCV Feel Good Company become experts in self- love,

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For this project many students found that being in nature can be part of their self- care routine some of our students’ favorite places are Barrio Logan to look at the murals, the beach, hiking Otay Lakes, boating and fishing in Otay Lakes, biking around their neighborhood, and hiking in the canyons behind our school.
