We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Emory and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, how does your business help the community?
My number one goal in life is to change people’s lives. That is the ultimate goal in every step I make in my career. The best way I can help, my calling, is to share my passion for the power of movement and advocate for mental health. I lead a team of instructors globally who provide livestream cycling classes through our FREE app, available to any bike, anywhere. I also provide classes myself to make sure I still carry that direct to client communication. Along with this, 10% of every order for my bakery is donated to NAMI, the National Alliance of Mental Illness.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have had the opportunity to work with mutiple unique and talented individuals in many industries who scoped my career. With all of the work I have done and continue to do, I call myself a Creator.
I started my career as a Professional Backup Dancer. Some of my highlights include Justin Bieber, Wiz Khalifa, Ariana Grande, The Pentatonix, The AMA’s and more. When I transitioned into fitness, I had the opportunity to work for a variety of boutique fitness studios in both NYC and LA. This led me to my ulitmate passion which is livestreaming workouts. I am currently full-time with Motosumo, however I have worked with many brands including Sweat Factor, ClassPass Live, Fhitting Room On-Demand, FitLife Productions, Megamase and Mr. Clown TV from the producer of Everybody Loves Raymond. Although dance and fitness have always been at the forefront of my career, I do also have experience in apparel, graphic, logo and web design. Some of the companies I have worked with include, Ralph Lauren, Greyson Clothiers, and PVH Corp brands.
In order to get to where I am now, I have had to overcome a lot of challenges and struggles. The biggest challenge and the one I am the most proud of is accepting and getting help for my mental health disorders. It takes a lot of courage to admit that you need help but I have learned overtime that your mental health always comes first. If you are not happy and healthy internally, there is no way you can give to others. My career is driven by mental health, it saved my life, and my goal is to inspire others to make their mental health the priority. You are never alone.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a water girl! Anything and everything that includes the ocean and beach, I am game! I would take my bff for an open water swim and snorkling at La Jolla Shores, checkout the beach scene in North PB, and catch the sunset at Windansea (my favorite beach spot!). I love supporting local artists and comedians, and I would get my older sister’s opinion on local restaurants as she is the foodie! And of course, take my bff to Brooke’s Bakery for dessert ;). On Sunday, I would make sure the La Jolla Open Aire Farmer’s Market was in the itinerary as we have a booth open every Sunday for Brooke’s Bakery!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This question gives me the chills as I look back at all of the support, mentorship and encouragement I have received through all parts of my career. My daily inspiration comes from those who are following their dreams, goals and passions, no matter the industry. It takes a lot of courage to lead with your heart and you are a rockstar!
My number one shoutout always goes to my two sisters. I have received a lot of no’s in my life and made many career changes in order to adapt and follow my calling. This was frowned upon by many. But, my sisters always believed in me and supported every move I made, knowing that I was making the right decision for my goals and overall health.
I would also like to give a special shoutout to my inner circle and mentors who have helped my growth throughout my careers in dance, fashion and fitness. Thank you to my mom, dad, therapist, tWitch, Adrienne Cass, Charlie Schaefer, Ramón Torres-Guillemard and Heather Hardy.
Lastly, I wouldn’t be here without the support from my Fight Club and Sweet Squad. Thank you for joining me along the ride and #bakingsomeonesday. I am always in your corner!
