We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Lauber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me the most happy is capturing beautiful, lifelong moments. Photography is more than a hobby for me, it’s a way of life. I take photos of almost everything and I constantly reflect on memories. That is what brings me the most joy. When I photograph others, I’m hoping to do the same for them. Capturing a unique moment of their life, forever. Something to reflect on for years to come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is very special to me because I’m a perfectionist. Which means a lot of time, work and thought goes into anything I produce. My favorite type of work is concert photography, so the photo I am most proud of is my photo of Jesse McCartney. He was one of my first celebrity/musician crushes as a young girl. I’ve taken lots of risks and made lots of personal connections to get where I am today with my photography. I think those two things are very important in life. Without personal connections and risk taking, you cannot get as far in this world. That’s what I have learned. What I want the world to know about my story, is that I am a self-taught photographer with lots of passion for color, composition, and framing.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1: Breakfast at Don’s Country Kitchen, lunch at Beach Hut Deli, and dinner at Carte Blanche. We’d go see a movie at Oceanside Regal. Day 2: Brunch at Stratford at the Harbor, we’d go kayaking at the harbor, and then dinner at Lighthouse.
Day 3: We’d grab donuts at Parlor Doughnuts, lunch at Johnny Manana’s, and we’d wander around sunset market and grab food there from one of the booths.
Day 4: Brunch at Beach Break Cafe, bike ride on the strand, bowling at Surf Bowl, and then dinner at LTH.
Day 5: Brunch at Carte Blanche, hang out at the beach by the pier, and then we’d end the visit with dinner at Panca Peruvian Cuisine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout my mom for always encouraging me to be as creative as possible and giving me my first digital camera. I’d like to also shoutout my high school photography teacher for teaching me the basics and helping me discover my love for photography. Lastly, I’d like to shoutout my boyfriend and best friend Spencer Campbell , for always believing in my talents and pushing me to do what makes me most happy.
