We had the good fortune of connecting with Donn Sway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Donn, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Being creative brings me tremendous joy. Recording my freestyles allows me to speak prophetically and manifest my desires yet also gives me an arena to voice my distresses and failures. This duality lends into the fact that my life feels more complete than it ever has before. Sawsir, a production company I co-founded with Andre Jones, is the epitome of my happiness. I am way more happy as a producer of content than as a consumer. I selfishly feel like my ideas need to be in circulation, and the audacity that I conjure up also ties into happiness. Being bold makes me happy. Setting new ambitions and new destinies makes me happy. My family being happy makes me happy because I remember times when we were anything but happy. Memories I can never replace makes me happy, it gives me a nostalgia of places I only want to visit from time to time – because progression makes me happy. Evolution. Adaptation. This isn’t the complete list but it’s not incomplete either.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sawsir is a production company that creates audio & visual moments to connect with likeminded individuals and foster creativity to the world. Trial and error got the company to this point. We researched other top producers in the field like QC, Dreamville & TDE to set ourselves up for success. Our company provides writing, recording, mixing, production, and mastering services. We produce merchandise and plan our own events as well. The hard part has been finding funding so we get creative and make the most happen with the least. It’s evolved our growth but we are looking to find venture capitalists and angel investors. Until they are available to partner with us we’ll roll our sleeves up and continue to grind it out. I want the world to know that the company is investing in dreams and desires. The company will open up a door for the whole community of San Diego to collaborate and establish itself as a entertainment juggernaut. This is the story of the underdog… For now.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Silver strand is my favorite underrated beach in San Diego. The view is spectacular and it’s away from the usual crowds. We’d go to Phil’s BBQ off Sports Arena Blvd. to eat, their ribs are the best I’ve had in the city. Grabbing drinks in La Jolla and then going down to the cove is also a nice hangout spot and well worth the trip down the 52 west. Last but not least Balboa Park is always the way to go, the museums, old globe theatre, and antique architectures are definitely a “vibe” to enjoy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my mom, Donna Martin, for giving me charisma and direction, she instilled confidence in me that shines brighter than any light. She taught me how to love myself and believe in the dreams that I had embedded in me. She is going to be launching a project that I’m super excited about in the near future!

I also want to shoutout my pops for giving me a foundation and supporting any aspiration I’ve ever had to the fullest. He works really hard to provide and he put his faith in me to open up a business to advance the family. I’m grateful to them for giving me the foundation I needed to be successful in this lifetime.
