We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Constans and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Real Estate is HARD. I think newbies look at shows on Bravo or HGTV and think that being an agent is fast cash and easy money and all of a sudden you are a “million dollar agent”. That is so far from the reality. It took me nearly 8 months from getting my license to making my first sale and I had plenty of help along the way. Real Estate is an industry about making and nurturing relationships and that can take months if not years to produce a sale. But, that is why I love my job…I get to make more than just sales and money, I get to make life-long friends.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a San Diego real estate agent based out of Pacific Beach, CA. I am native to San Diego, growing up in Cardiff-by-the-Sea , and have stayed in the county all my life. Real Estate is my 2nd career after being in the events industry for 10 years. It was a natural progression as there are many of the same challenges in both events as in real estate, which provided me the thick skin one needs in this business. I believe being a native to the area and having an innate knowledge of the county helps with those with less knowledge grasp what it means purchase real estate in San Diego. I followed in my Mom’s footsteps after she has gotten her license 15 years before. Had I not had her by my side, it would have been nearly impossible to stay in the business. Real estate is beyond fickle, so having her support was insurmountable. I take something away from every transaction I do, whether it be easy or difficult. I look at every deal as a lesson to be learned, therefore I am consistently making sure I aim closer to perfection, even though that will never be the end result. As long as I am learning and making sure I give my clients the best experience I can, I will always love being an agent.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my – there are too many amazing places to list but I will give it a go! First, I would make sure there was a trip to my family’s favorite restaurant (my parents have been going for over 40 years) which is Tony Jacal’s in Solana Beach. It is the best family Mexican restaurant in San Diego and the number of memories I have there are in the hundreds! Then take a few hours and check out the World Famous San Diego Zoo. Yes – it’s a tourist attraction, but I am a member and I love going there and checking out all the amazing conservation efforts they are constantly doing for our animal friends and environment. Then a lunch over at Officine Buona Forchetta in Liberty Station for a Aperol Spritz and their fabulous lasagna. While there, pick up a few plants and amazing pots at Pigment. Then head to my home town in Pacific Beach and grab a beer at Tap Room San Diego and watch football or baseball. And while we are here in Pacific Beach, hop on some beach cruisers and ride around the bay on the boardwalk, catching the sunset. Sounds like a perfect way to spend a weekend in. sunny San Diego.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My real estate career is completely dedicated to my Mom. She retired from being a corporate entrepreneur to get my little sister through high school but always had the desire to work, so with some encouragement from my Dad and Uncle, she got her real estate license and created a nice 2nd career for herself. I watched in awe how seriously she took this role and I always knew someday I would follow in her footsteps. She has always been my greatest role model and whenever I get anxious or frustrated about my work, I know she will have some sage advice to get me through a difficult deal. I am also so lucky to be surrounded by a plethora of female colleagues who constantly make me want to be a better realtor and thus a better human. Two of my fav real estate gal pals who completely crush the real estate game here in San Diego are Genie Irish and Kelly Miles. These ladies make encourage me to create goals and crush them and I cannot thank them enough!
