Meet Angelo Acevedo | Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angelo Acevedo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angelo, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal is to become a filmmaker and director, bringing stories to life on the big screen. Being a filmmaker is less about meeting specific criteria or earning a degree and more about having the courage to start, create, and grow. It’s about taking that first step, committing to the craft, and seeing where the journey leads.
While I’ve considered going to film school, the cost has been a challenge. Instead, I’ve dedicated myself to learning independently studying books, watching tutorials, and absorbing everything I can about composition, storytelling, and filmmaking techniques. The resources are out there if you’re willing to dig deep and stay persistent.
I’ve always been captivated by the art of filmmaking, from the creative process of writing stories to imagining unique ways to bring them to life. I haven’t had the chance to be on a movie set yet, but it’s a dream of mine, and I know I’ll make it happen.
For me, filmmaking isn’t just a job it’s a passion and a source of joy. The ultimate reward is sharing an idea with the world and seeing how it resonates with others. That’s the kind of fulfillment I’m chasing: creating something meaningful that inspires, entertains, or moves people. That’s my end goal and achieving it would be pure happiness..
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My videos stand out with their artistic flair and cinematic style, often inspired by a run-and-gun documentary approach. I aim to strike a balance between what viewers want and what I’m passionate about, always focusing on triggering emotions and creating meaningful experiences. Music and sound design play a big role in my more thought out projects, and seeing the audience’s positive response reassures me that I’m on the right path.
I’m proud of the audience I’ve built so far. A big part of being a filmmaker is delivering experiences that captivate and resonate making viewers feel a emotion.
Consistency has been key to my progress. Staying true to my brand, delivering on promises, and sticking with it through challenges have been invaluable lessons. Success isn’t easy, but when you love what you do, the journey becomes rewarding.
My advice: have a plan, stay prepared, and remain true to your vision. Avoid straying too far from your identity, as it can confuse both your audience and your growth. Most importantly, have fun, cherish the journey, and remember that life is about more than money. It’s the memories and challenges that make it all worthwhile. If everything were easy, would it still feel exciting?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take my friend on a Bay Area taco truck and burrito tour. We’d start in Oakland, exploring some of the best taco trucks, then head to San Francisco’s Mission District to hit a few iconic spots. Of course, we’d wrap up in San Jose, where there’s plenty to enjoy. The goal? To find their favorite!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to several people and resources that have inspired and supported me along the way.
First, my mom, who has always been there for me. She gave me access to a MasterClass subscription through her work, and Martin Scorsese’s lessons were especially impactful. His insights on storytelling and filmmaking were not only motivating but practical.
I also want to thank YouTube for being an incredible resource. Watching interviews with directors like Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez has been invaluable. Their stories of persistence, creativity, and success show what’s possible with hard work.
Locally, Kyle Newacheck, a Bay Area director, is proof that grinding and dedication can lead to a thriving career. Similarly, Tyler Spindel’s work shows a true passion for the craft, and his style is inspiring.
Lastly, a huge thank you to my partner, Christie. She’s been my rock from day one, always supporting and pushing me in the right direction. I couldn’t do this without her
