We had the good fortune of connecting with Amber Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
I’m a mom before anything else. My daughter Aamiyah is seven years old and last year in December of 2019 she watched me graduate from Pharmacy Tech school. I feel that is one of the most important things I’ve shown her as her mother and will impact her life in a major way. I’ve shown her that education is key and that you can be whatever you want to be in life. Speak your goals into existence and work hard to conquer them all. I have set the example for her on what success should look like. I’ll be there to guide her through life’s obstacles and she will always have my full support on whatever path she chooses.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Everyone knows I have a fashion blog which I love dearly but I’m a firm believer in having options under your belt. For years I’ve always thought about going to school to become a pharmacy technician but the timing was always off. Last year, I finally decided to go for it. I did some research and found the school and applied for the program. Long story short, I got in and was ready for new beginnings. It definitely wasn’t easy and I had plenty of days where I wanted to quit and give up. But myself and family kept me going and most importantly my daughter. I wanted to show not just myself but her that you can be whatever you want to be. I studied and worked really hard to pass my certification exam and get my state license. It wasn’t easy but I remained focused and got the job done. I want the world to know I’m not just a girl with a simple fashion blog. I’m a girl with goals and ambition, I will always work hard and won’t stop until my goals are accomplished.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Diego, has so many good places to go. I’m a foodie so we would definitely check out some of my favorite taco shops and sushi spots. I love going on trips with my daughter to Seaport Village so that would def be a spot to hit during the day hours. Far as night life, Downtown and PB are some fun spots for drinks and good music and the typical adult night life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and close friends who supported my decision of going back to school and kept me grounded and focused. Also, my family for stepping in and being there for my daughter while I was at school and busy trying to finish out my internship.
