We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Ramdhani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is an important part of life and a key point in your own growth and development. In my own life, I’ve always strived to do things that I thought were impossible and part of risk taking is putting yourself in a situation you didn’t imagine yourself in, applying for that position at your work that you never dreamed you could do, completing your degree no matter how many years it takes you- these are all a part of the risk that comes with growing. I currently work 2 different jobs and am about to start a Master’s Program in Communications. At one of my jobs, at The Disneyland Resort, I have worked in 4 different dep[artments during my 6 years working there, not because of boredom or not being able to settle, but because I took the risk to want to learn more and to grow within the company. Each time I have transferred, I have risked losing seniority in my department, I’ve risked the opportunity to become a lead or a trainer, and I have often left the relationships that were built in those departments, but with all of that has come the chance to learn more and to grow in my own journey. In addition to working at The Disneyland Resort, I also work with a PR company and will be starting my Masters in Communications at Southern New Hampshire University. Pursuing a Master’s and getting an additional job were things I knew I wanted to do someday to enhance my future and taking the risk to pursue those opportunities has grown me as an individual and in my career. Risk is about leaving the things you know and pursuing the opportunities to make you great.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an Account Coordinator, I have the opportunity to connect with varying clients and help them promote their brands, bring awareness to their businesses, and make them a star! I’ve had a long journey getting here. It took me almost 9 years to get my BA in Communications and Integrated Marketing. I started out wanting to pursue Chiropractics and was almost complete with my Kinesiology degree when I got into a car accident that left me with chronic back pain and a few herniated discs. After that accident, I knew I had to explore other opportunities and interests I had. After working at Disneyland, I learned that I was passionate about helping others and talking to people, and that’s what led me to change my focus to Communications. Eventually, Disney rolled out their Disney Aspire Program, a paid tuition program offered to their Cast Members, for which I applied and was able to complete my BA for free! It’s been a long road to getting my BA, but I finally graduated in May, and will now be starting Masters Program in October! I’m excited to continue to learn about PR and Communications as I continue to work for this wonderful PR company and for Disneyland! Through all of this, I have learned to never give up on my dreams. No matter how long it takes to get there, you can! With the support and encouragement of my family, boyfriend, and friends I have always felt empowered to pursue whatever I can, no matter the amount of time it would take me to get there! Your dreams are always in reach if you just have the courage to pursue them!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anytime I have a friend visiting from out of town, I always love to go and explore different coffee shops around Orange County! One of my favorite coffee shops to visit is Philz Coffee at Pacific City in Huntington Beach! There, you can grab your favorite coffee, and either head to one of your favorite clothing shops, get a facial at Facial Works, or a bit to eat from Ola’s!
Then I would head on over to Laguna Beach to visit my favorite brunch spot, The Rooftop Lounge, at La Casa del Camino! There, you can grab some of the best coastal cuisines and enjoy the view of Pacific Ocean!
To end our day, I would (of course) head on over to The Downtown Disney District to grab some beignets from Jazz Kitchen and do some shopping at the shops in Downtown Disney!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I first started looking for an opportunity to intern during my last year of my Bachelors, I came upon an opportunity to intern with Ajenda Public Relations- a full-service PR firm that works with hospitality locations across Orange County. The owner of Ajenda PR, Jennifer Morris, took me onto her team while had very little social media and PR experience. This was a huge stepping stone in my education as this opportunity taught me things I had never learned before! Everything I have learned thus far has been invaluable. Connecting with my clients, helping create events and marketing plans to promote brands, and running social media campaigns with this company have given me the confidence to further pursue this field. I truly can’t thank Jen and Ajenda PR enough for giving me this opportunity!
