We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Davies and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I draw so much inspiration from watching how my favorite bloggers and influencers are approaching the ever evolving landscape of social media. I know it’s popular to say don’t look at what other people are doing in your space and focus on your mission, and there’s definitely a fine line between learning and gathering inspo versus getting caught in the distraction zone trying to be like someone else. But I think in a brand new space like social media, there is constant change that requires us to work together and learn from each other to succeed at a job that’s really still being invented. Meeting local Instagram ladies in my niche is always so encouraging. We compare notes, share strategies that are working, create ways to collaborate on new projects and it gives me fuel and inspiration to keep creating.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m on a journey to sew my own wardrobe. I love getting to share my sewing projects and style adventures. I hope to inspire others to incorporate creativity into everyday life and try more of their own DIY projects. You can find me at AlexDaviesLiving.com or on Instagram @AlexadaviesLiving to see what I’m sewing next. I started sharing sewing projects and whatever creative idea I was up to on Instagram and my blog about three years ago. At first it wasn’t very serious and I was having fun learning about photography. But I quickly noticed how many amazing stay at home moms were creating a career out of their social feeds. So I thought why not me? The biggest challenge with creating online content while raising my kiddos is getting that screen time balance right. It’s something I’m often checking and curbing to make sure my kids come first. I’ve learned so much about storytelling and navigating the business of turning my life into a brand. And it’s always a challenge to identify what I’m most passionate about creating versus what I think people want to see from me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love playing tour guide! I usually take friends to my favorite hike at Torrey Pines and then grab burritos in Encinitas at the best taco shop Juanitas. Then if we still have room, we cruise down the coast to Handel’s for a scoop of ice cream and walk the beach in Carlsbad.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A big shoutout to my favorite San Diego Instagram friends who I’m always learning from. Go give these gals a follow: @stayinghomesawyer and @simplymelanielo
