We had the good fortune of connecting with Adriana Dumon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adriana, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We really believe there is no way to bring any creative endeavour to life without taking some risks. Wether it´s personal or financial, you always need to learn to relate to risk through respect but never fear. If you let fear drive your management of risk, your power and potential to create becomes very conservative.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my career in the film industry. I used to art direct for films. I met Frank in one of the shoots and we became very close to each other. We shared the same vision about life and work. When I transitioned to be a designer, which is something I always wanted to pursue, I felt that having worked in film and having learnt to tell stories through images, helped me a lot to put together the story behind Ölend. One of the most important lessons I´ve learnt is the fact you need to be constantly looking for new ways of being inspired. It´s really easy to sit in the confort of what you already know that works, but you need to push yourself and your limits to create something worth the energy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things to do in Barcelona! I would definitely start the tour visiting our studio in the neighborhood of Poble nou. As it is very close to the sea, having a Paella at the chiringuito Ca La Nuri is mandatory. Also walking around the Borne neighborhood and enjoying the little local shops is a great plan. If you happen to come during Spring or Summer, don´t miss the Costa Brava, where you will find excellent beach spots, amazing food and great people. If you are up for party, the sala Apolo just opened its doors after the pandemic. A classic hub for party lovers. Also, get lost in the streets of Gracia, and find little tabernas and tascas to taste local wine, which happen to be one of the best in the world, always with a tapa!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would say there would never have been any of the adventure we are in, that is called Ölend Backpacks, without the founders team. Frank Rios and Antonio Longás somehow inspired me and supported me to be a better designer, to think out of the box and to trust my intuition. Later on, Juan Crespo helped a lot and along the way, the four of us made a great team of individuals.
