We had the good fortune of connecting with Albert Maravilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Albert, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me the happiest is the feeling that I’m making the most out of my life. Whether that be spending quality time with the people that mean the most to me, spending time being productive towards my goals, learning new things and living through new experiences. We only have one life in this world, and time is priceless, and that is why living my life to the fullest makes me happy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I first picked up a camera in 2016 and was invited by a friend who was already an experienced portrait photographer to shoot some models with him in Old town San Diego. After that day I fell in love with the thrill and dynamics of portrait photography. I started off shooting my closest friends and posting on instagram and after a few months I was able to land my first paid photography shoot. Over the years I’ve had the wondrous opportunities to shoot for weddings, nightclubs, and even published magazines. I’ve made lifelong friends along the way such as photographers, videographers, models, stylists, make up artists, and other creatives. There was a time in my life where I would overwhelm myself with shooting and posting content to the point where it wasn’t fun anymore and I was losing my passion for it. It became more of a job than a hobby. One of the most important lessons that I learned in photography was that It’s okay to take a break from it and that it’s okay to not to take things too seriously. Getting into portrait photography was undoubtedly a life changer for me. I would not have met the people I have in my life now, as well as been to and seen places I wouldn’t have otherwise. Photography has truly given me the opportunity to make the most out of life.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The number spot I would take a fiend visiting San Diego for the first time would be Glorietta Bay on Coronado Island overlooking the downtown San Diego city skyline across the water. That spot has always been a go to spot for me for almost a decade whenever life gets a little hectic. For food, I would take them to Tacos el Gordo, for some campechana fries which are my absolute favorite. I would then take them to rest of my favorite spots in San Diego which include, Balboa Park, Mission Beach boardwalk, and around downtown San Diego.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a huge shout out to my girlfriend and best friend, Melena Cerrillo. I definitely would not be the person I am today without her. It’s a pleasantly crazy feeling dating someone you look up to and that has completely changed your outlook on life. She never ceases to teach me new things and inspires me to be the best version of myself. I’ve always wanted to be with someone as fun and adventurous as I am, and she has been that and more and for that I’m forever grateful.
