Meet Alexis Harris | Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been a creative person. I still have my little fur covered notebook with my list of careers on them. Now, as I got older the list changed. It got, what I thought, was a bit more realistic.
First on that list is Fashion Designer. There are so many different forms of art, and I’ve likely tried them all. Art is how I express and center myself so being able to do that as a career is a blessing.
I’ve always had a passion for helping others which is why psychology was most recent on my list and also why I joined the army. Being a makeup artist lets me have my creative outlet and connect with so many beautiful souls.
Being able to help others see the beauty in themselves is amazing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I focus on creating an all around experience for my clients. From them finding me, to the booking process to the chair. Customer service is a big part of what I do. It’s not just about a bomb makeup application for me. Makeup artistry is not just a hobby to me and I want that be obvious.
Makeup to me is like war paint. When I have a good beat on I feel invincible. Seeing that same reaction in my clients is so rewarding. I don’t transform faces I just enhance the beauty that’s already there. From customer service to the makeup beat I want you to feel taken care of.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is actually a question that comes up with my clients a lot. To paint a little picture, I got stationed at JBLM October 2019. By the time I got out 2020 COVID had already taken over. All that to say between lockdown and starting school, I’ve not really had a chance to get to know Washington yet. I still say all of the city names wrong. I’m a Texas girl born and raised. I will say though, Beefy Burgers and Frugals would definitely be on the list. Some of the best burgers I’ve found on my hunt.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporter is my husband. He’s the reason I even picked makeup artistry as a career. After the army I just didn’t have the motivation I needed. He told me to do something I’m passionate about instead of stressing about what others consider practical. I know I would not have taken the risk of starting a business without him by my side.
Another person I absolutely have to give their flowers is Sable Desiree. She was my program director and instructor during makeup school. Without her guidance I would be lost in the sauce. You could tell that she genuinely cares about those around her and wants you to succeed. She constantly pushes me to be the best that I can and I’m forever grateful to have met her. She’s such a light in this world and I believe you can feel it soon as she walks in a room.
