We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Moze and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ben, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I get inspired from all sorts of different things and the ways in which I get inspired is often changing. Hearing a beat that I vibe with always creates inspiration right away. I’m generally very selective when it comes to beat selection. The beat needs to evoke an excited response in me almost immediately. Otherwise I have found that writing becomes a grind. If the beat is the one and I get that good feeling I can just start writing and it comes easily.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets my music apart from others is that I truly don’t try and sound or be like anyone else. I have always taken pride in being authentic in all areas of life & speaking my mind; for better or worse. I am excited for the music I am going to create in the future. Although I am confident in my sound and ability, I also know there is a lot of untapped potential so I am stoked to see what the leads to creatively.

If I could say one thing to the world about my story or brand is just that everything I rap about is 100% me. I have lived an interesting life and I write music about my experiences. It’s really that simple.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I’m from Eugene, Oregon so If someone wanted to come visit I would definitely try and get them to Autzen Stadium to watch the ducks play. That is definitely an awesome experience for anyone who hasn’t been. We also have some great places to camp and swim.. so if it was summertime I would show them some great places out in nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wrote my first raps when I was 15 at a summer camp in Veneta, OR called Culture Jam. So i’d like to definitely give a shout out to the people who put that camp on. It was a good experience in my adolescence for helping me break out my shell and be willing to try new things. Taylor Gruve was one of the camp counselors there and he led a workshop on freestyle rap & beat boxing. That camp is also where I rapped onstage into a microphone in front of people for the first time.

Some other people I would like mention in my musical journey is my friend Devin he really helped push me into getting into recording more and was one of the first people to really instill confidence in me that I had some juice.

Also I would like to recognize freshtwofresh for helping me find my voice and swagger. He is a local engineer/ producer in Eugene. We recorded so much music over a couple year span and the time I spent with him really helped me find my stride.

My good friends Alec & Connor have also helped me out a ton. We all lived in a dorm together while playing college baseball and made a lot of music together during that time. I think in any sort of creative pursuit it’s really important to have people close to you who truly believe in you & those guys have always done that for me.
