Hi Josiah “JosytheKing”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’m a strong believer that taking risk is a necessary thing to do especially in the entertainment and music business. You never know how far your gonna go if you don’t take the risk of putting yourself out there. As a creative person I think risk was something that I always have dealt with and learned to become comfortable with. As a producer its necessary to put yourself out there to artists and studios in order to find work. If you really love your craft and truly wanna take it to a place where it puts food on the table you can only be successful by taking risk, and being comfortable taking risk every day til its a normal practice, where being uncomfortable is what motivates you to become better in your craft.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For me personally, my journey creatively started from just sending friends beats and instrumentals, and feeling confident in my work. I would spend 4-6 hours almost daily, just producing music in my room, learning from YouTube and just experimenting with DAWs, and programs learning how to sound design, how to stay in time when playing drums, how to track vocals well, etc.. The challenge for me was knowing where to go when I knew my sound was good, who to reach out to to get to the next level: being working with artists, and trying to collaborate. Places like instagram and Soundcloud (at least back in 2013) were great spots to collaborate with people. You didn’t ask for money you’d send each other loops and get to work. You don’t need to get placement right off the bat with big artists, start collaborating with people on platforms like Soundcloud or instagram, tiktok even has tons of cover artists that don’t have producers. You’ll truly be surprised how many people will respond to you if you just reach out and professionally introduce yourself. Ex: “Love your music, would love to lock in with you and work” -even this short message has gotten me pretty far being able to submit music to artists. The other advice I would give, is be okay with ‘finding your sound’ taking awhile. Your sound and your creative artistic abilities do not mature overnight, it takes a strict discipline and a good ear to develop a new sound. I always write music with the thought that its a journal entry into my life; if I scroll down my beats on my laptop and play a random song, I can usually tell you what mood I was in and what was going on in that time in my life. Allow your music to be a canvas for you to paint your story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just recently moved to North Hollywood so haven’t explored a ton yet, however I would definitely take them down to some of the studios on Sunset Boulevard that I have worked in, most of my friends share my passion of music so I know they’d enjoy it. Theres this great dim sum place on Hollywood Boulevard, called northern cafe, its super good. Intelligencia is a cool coffee shop up the street from me definitely worth checking out.

If I am in Santa Cruz back home, definitely taking them to Waddell Creek north of Santa Cruz, the best sunsets in the world, hands down, Lanikai Oahu may be the only place that could compete. Drive the 1 down to Big Sur, and take them through Cannery Row in Monterey. In Santa Cruz, Café Brazil is the best spot for breakfast hands down, burger. is a solid spot for burgers and cafe style food. El Palomar is the best Mexican grill in town in my opinion, and Shogun is a really nice spot as well. I’d also take them up to Alices, for a drive through the redwoods, and take them through Half Moon Bay for some great seafood. NorCal is the best the West Coast has to offer with scenery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really wanna dedicate this to my family and to Father God. They have been so supportive in my journey of music and my growth as an artist and as a man. My faith took me to new places creatively and has opened doors for me to be in the position I am now, pursuing a record label, and being in audio production for film.
