Meet Alejandro Gomez | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandro Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alejandro, what matters most to you?
Producing high-quality products is the most important principle and what I look for the most when baking goods. Ensuring I remain consistent in using quality ingredients and traditional techniques is one of my core values. This continues to be an important focus as maintaining the quality of the bread and the integrity of the brand is crucial. My goal is to create a memorable experience; bread is the ultimate comfort food, and I love that I can share that feeling with my customers.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mi pan bakery is a family-owned organic micro-bakery located in the heart of Chula Vista CA founded by Alejandro Gomez and Alejandra Ruelas that specializes in naturally leavened handcrafted artisan breads, using organic and local products. Each component of every product is crafted from scratch and baked to order .Once you try real sourdough bread you won’t be back to an industrially baked bread.
The continued positive feedback I have received continues to motivate me every day. I look forward to sharing Mi Pan with new consumers and growing my brand, continuing to provide a positive experience. Utilizing multiple social media platforms supported the growth of the business.
One of our biggest challenges as a small family business is continuing to focus on how to build brand awareness. We continue utilizing multiple social media platforms to support the growth of the business. However, our company remains driven by staying true to our philosophy of providing quality consistent products. It often can be a struggle for a small business to locate ingredients that properly represent Mi Pan. We continue to seek out ways to locate the best possible local ingredients

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a very hard and loaded question. San Diego has a lot of hidden gems and deserves more than a week to be fully enjoyed by outsiders. However, if I need to narrow down my list to three must go places I’d say: Coronado Island, Gaslamp and Torrey Pines. Go enjoy a nice beach day at Coronado Beach, followed by delicious gelato at Gelato Paraiso. For a fun nightlight, Gaslamp is the way to go. There are so many bars and restaurants to pick from, you’ll be guaranteed a fun night. Lastly, for all the nature and golf lovers, I’d recommend checking out the greenery that Torrey Pines offers (not to mention it’s President Obama’s favorite golf course) as well as a colorful sunset to end the day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today if it was not because of my wife and my parents. My parent taught me discipline and to work hard for what you want.
My wife and i have been together for almost 15 years and she has always been my biggest fan and strongest supporter. She’s by far the strongest woman I’ve ever met and the reason why I decided to take a leap of faith with this business. She deserves every credit, recognition and everything in between.
I like to think of us as Ying and Yang. Our polar opposite personalities and working styles helps the business stay organized and consistent. Her analytical personality helps the business stay on top of everything administrative, financial and organizational. On the other hand, my creativity is what I like to call the ‘secret sauce’ of MiPan bakery.
