We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Inbody and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
Whatever you do just know that if it brings joy to yourself and other, don’t give up

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love the freedom in contemporary art. In college, I explored glass blowing, stain glass, and oil painting. I spent many days trekking into beautiful places to plein air paint. I enjoy still life but the freedom of abstract painting gives me great colorful pleasure. Being a professional artist takes real determination and dedication because you are often told “no.” You just need to keep going. My big take away: even though you have rejections, you have those that love what you are doing. Know yourself and your value to your dreams.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m more of a footloose kind of a girl and don’t really like to make set plans, but there are a few places in San Diego that are a must. We’d probably begin with Art; Lux Art Institute, Oceanside Museum of Art, and Ashton Gallery. Later some local artisan shopping at L’atelier, and Sbicca on the patio with a cocktail at sunset.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been an artist for many years. When I took my first class in Art on 30th I figured “this should be fun,” but what I discovered was this incredible world of contemporary art . My mentor, Kate Ashton has opened up a world of creativity, friendship, and joy. She wrote a book called “Abstract Painting For Today’s Contemporary Artist“ in which she shares some of my paintings along with many other great artists.
