We had the good fortune of connecting with Anita Colemon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anita, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I am actively teaching my children is to try new things and challenge yourself. For my husband and I as our children are getting older, now four and two, is to be brave and adventurous. To view the world as a great big opportunity to challenge yourself and do something maybe you were unsure you could do or in general overcoming the fear of failure. I personally have experienced that fear of failure time and time again, only now do I feel that confidence to step out and try something new knowing that failure is just a lesson to be learned and how to adapt until successful. We not only speak to our children but we show them, by being the example that you are never too young or old to learn a new skill or chase a long time dream.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I decided to begin making baby blankets once my second child arrived and it was cold, mainly for me! I wanted a blanket that I knew would keep my little one nice and cozy but would cover me as well. I started making the blankets oversized for the two of us and what is really great is that size works well for playing with toys on the ground or tummy time. Sew! Ani! Sew! Boutique is not only for baby size items but any size quilt. What makes us stand out is that I only buy enough material to create that one project. I do my best to not duplicate material combos, so you will know that your quilt or item made by me is 100% unique. The greatest challenges I have overcome is designing and creating quilts in the late evening after I would get off work from my retail job. Really making sure I keep my focus, drive and quality of work at my highest priority. The nights would be long but once the person receives their item and they love it, that is what makes it all worth it and pushes me to create more. I would love for Sew! Ani! Sew! Boutique to be known for quality, unique, custom handmade items made with love from me to you. I am always up for a challenge or something new to create, so let’s create something beautiful together!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First would be my Mom! She was taught how to sew by her mother and then passed the knowledge and love of quilting to me! I was always so inspired by her and how she could turn material into beautiful quilts, clothes and all of our Halloween costumes growing up. My mother showed me that having a creative outlet has so many rewards not just what you create but the sense of pride, accomplishment and the drive to hone your craft to your style. She is also my best craft store shopping buddy! My Husband, Julius! He is the most encouraging and motivating person I know! He was the one to suggest selling my baby blankets and having my own small business. He is my sounding board and support, he never gives up on me just encourages me to view things from another angle to gain perspective and plan my next move. He truly is the best support a crafty wife could ask for, plus Julius only drops subtle hints if I may have gone a little wild at the fabric store! Lastly would be my friends who have shown support and passed my information along to their friends growing my network. There really is something special about a handmade gift from the heart and I am so thankful for everyone who has allowed me to create a truly one of a kind object that will last them years to come.
