Meet Meaghan Lawler | Designer & Home Blogger

We had the good fortune of connecting with Meaghan Lawler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meaghan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
One of the primary ideals of my brand is to inspire and teach others – whether that is demonstrating the steps of a home renovation DIY project or explaining a new recipe. I think teaching others is vital to the success of my brand because people love to learn new things, and that is what keeps people coming back. Inspiring and teaching my following provides collaboration and participation in my brand – it creates a sense of community and a way for others to engage with me and relate their own life to mine. Individuals can gain tips, knowledge, and ideas from my brand and I think that is vital to its success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I run a blog, website, and social media called m homemade, which is a design and lifestyle guide for the home. Through this platform, I provide home design tips, tricks, and ideas to others, serving as a guide for interior design, home décor, DIYs, recipes, and more. I look at m homemade as something that blends all the things I love into one place where I am able to create and document all that I am passionate about. Since I recently purchased my first house (which is a complete fixer upper), m homemade has transitioned to showcasing the many renovation projects I have been completing as I transform the house I bought to be my very own home and architectural style. I love to inspire others with my DIY projects and home renovation and interior design ideas. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had had a passion for all things home – whether that was house design, interior decorating, or homemade creations, I found inspiration and encouragement from the home. My interest in design has grown into my professional life as I pursue my career in the architecture and design industry. I have always been the type of person that needs a creative outlet in all aspects of my life. I can only sit at a desk for so long until I need a hands-on project to work on. That’s where the idea of m homemade was born. I love showing my followers all of the at-home projects I am working on with details and step by step processes. Purchasing a home and renovating it has always been a dream of mine. I am so inspired by the act of transforming an outdated home into something that is remodeled to be new and more usable. I have completely changed my new house from the inside out – and my brand m homemade – sheds light into the entire process and why I love doing it so much. I hope to inspire others to do hands-on projects like myself, and to not be afraid to make their living space beautiful, unique, and personalized to their own liking. Starting a home blogging brand to showcase all that I am passionate about is not easy. Of course I doubted myself and wondered if I had the knowledge, resources, and content to begin this journey. But at the end of the day, I knew I had to take the chance because I didn’t want to always think “what if.” Being a first-time homebuyer of a fixer upper also has its challenges. I faced many difficulties through the process of renovations, but I’ve also learned many lessons through this experience and along the way. I believe anything that is worth working towards has ups and downs – this makes achieving your goals that much more rewarding once you’re at the finish line. We have to work hard for the best things in life, and that is the beauty of adversity along the way. Once you overcome those bumps it is that much more satisfying to look back and realize what you accomplished.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite things about San Diego is their sunsets. As cliche as it is, I find such beauty and peacefulness in watching the sunsets in the evening, plus I don’t think any place has as gorgeous sunsets as San Diego, so this would definitely be on my itinerary. I also love San Diego for it’s weather (obviously) so any outdoor restaurant or bar would be on my list. Give me some sunshine, food, and a beautiful view and I am happy. There are so many great restaurants to visit while in town that are a must-see! Coffee shops are another place I love to visit, especially mom-and-pop ones that have beautifully crafted custom drinks. I would add to my San Diego itinerary visiting a coffee shop in downtown Encinitas or Carlsbad and walking around the town and the beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Although the development of m homemade was a self-motivated passion project, it certainly would not be where it is without the support of my friends and family. A great portion of content I create for m homemade is founded on renovations and DIY projects from my newly purchased fixer upper. These projects, are not a one-man show. I am regularly receiving help from my family and friends to complete these unique home renovation projects – and I could not be more thankful for their assistance along the way!
