We had the good fortune of connecting with Niesha Calhoun and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Niesha, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
One of the biggest factors I have found that has helped me be successful is being authentic. I have a genuine interest of getting to know the people that I am surrounded by. I think of strangers as friend’s I haven’t yet met. I love having the opportunity to encourage other women and I feel that’s what sets me aside from other personal brands because I genuinely want to be part of other women’s success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the things I am most excited about is that I get to use my creative outlet as a way to encourage other people. I started my personal brand Nomadic Niche in 2017 after being diagnosed with a rare brain condition resulting in surgery. I realized that I wanted to use my story as a way to encourage others and found that it was easiest to do that through photography. I enjoy shooting lifestyle content and using it as a way to encourage, educate, and empower other women. My journey has not been easy, but has been so worth it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love a great adventure and our first stop would be to Tacos El Gordo in Chula Vista! Their Al Pastor tacos are some of the most authentic tacos you’ll find in the area. Because coffee drinking is one of my favorite past times, I would also take them out to all of my favorite coffee shops. Cafe Moto, Communal Coffee, and Charlie’s Best Bread. We would then grab take-out from Sushi Deli and head to Sunset Cliffs where we would watch the sunset. I would then take them to La Jolla to check out seal beach and eat the best burger in town at Public House. We would then head up north and book a style session at Retail Therapy Boutique in Carlsbad! After we would head to Barrio for shrimp tacos (they make the best.)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My grandmother Maryann Donnelly, my mom Laura Zimmerman, and my Dad Todd Zimmerman deserve all of the credit for molding me into the person I am today. My grandmother fought breast cancer when I was born and has been in remission ever since. Both her and my mom have taught me to be a strong woman. My dad has encouraged me through his leadership and love and I learned to always be kind to others, to work hard for what you want, and to continue chasing your dreams. Thanks to their support, I am!
