We had the good fortune of connecting with CJ Epstein and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi CJ, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My views on work life balance has changed over my career. When I first started Team Elite Chiropractic, I was in grind mode. Every waking minute was spent on, in, or thinking about the business. I was young and single and viewed the business as my baby. I had to care for and nurture it to help it grow through its infancy. As the business started to grow, and I matured myself, I started to realize the importance of work life balance. Taking time away from my business allows me to reset and recharge my batteries to help keep me excited about what I do and prevent me from burning out. I have since gotten married and my wife has helped show me there is more to life than work. We enjoy travelling and my fear of leaving my practice for prolonged periods of time has diminished. My patients appreciate that I am taking care of myself and are happy to see me when I get back. At the end of the day it is all about balance. Too much in either direction will cause the other to suffer. Work your butt off and then go enjoy some time off!
What should our readers know about your business?
I founded Team Elite Chiropractic with the vision of providing elite level sports chiropractic care to the public. What sets us apart from the rest, is that we go the extra mile to help get our patients better, faster. Typical chiropractic adjustments are great for creating mobility in a joint, but they only address one piece of the puzzle. At Team Elite Chiropractic we spend more time with each patient and incorporate different soft tissue techniques to address muscle, tendon, and ligament issues and corrective exercise programming to help enhance joint stability and motor control. This full spectrum treatment approach goes above and beyond what is typically seen in our field, but we feel it is essential. Getting to where we are today was not easy but by sticking to our principles and providing unmatched service we have been able to set ourselves apart in the chiropractic space and attract a niche market of patients looking for more. Initially it would have been easier to lower our prices to attract more patients, but it would have diluted our services and was not what we want to portray for the Team Elite Chiropractic brand. We specialize in musculoskeletal injuries from head to toe and work with all types of people from Average Joe’s that like to stay active, to professional athletes striving to be the best in the world. We currently serve as the Team Chiropractor for the San Diego Padres and work with many youth athletes within the community. We have stuck to an organic marketing approach, slowly building up loyal patients along the way. We let our work and customer experience speak for itself and it shows in the referrals and online testimonials we have accrued over time. We hope to reach more like-minded people in San Diego looking to prevent injuries from happening, rehab a current injury, or that just want to perform at their highest potential.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in San Diego is a dream. The day I moved here I knew I was home. Whenever I have friends come out to visit there is a pretty standard set of things to do and see. A perfect day would start with a workout at The MVMT Warehouse or Fitness Quest 10. Both gyms offer a killer workout, and they have a sense of community that is unmatched. From there we would grab coffee and breakfast on the beach at Woody’s. The view of the ocean is unreal and the Benji breakfast burrito with sugar spiced bacon is not something to be missed. To burn off the food baby, we would walk around Baolboa Park or hike the Torrey Pines Reserve. Both offer fantastic views and are staples of San Diego. Next up, would be a tour of the iconic Hotel Del Coronado and some beach time playing Spikeball or throwing the football around. After all the activity it’s time for some relaxation and recovery at Livkraft, a wellness spa in La Jolla. Some of my favorite treatments are the Normatec compression boots and the full body cryotherapy. I always leave there feeling great! With our energy restored, we are back on the grind, grabbing drinks in Ocean Beach and catching the sunset at Sunset Cliffs. To close out the night we would cruise to ARLO, the newest hot restaurant in San Diego, featuring Chef Josh Mouzakes, a renowned chef and good friend. Chef Josh puts his own unique spin on the menu and provides innovative scratch made dishes using fresh local ingredients. The atmosphere captures what San Diego is all about with it’s open air concept and mid-century modern décor.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am at today without the love and support from my wife, Tatiana. She encourages me every day to be the best I can and is always there to bounce ideas off of. It doesn’t hurt that she is a business consultant and is able to use her knowledge and skills to help improve my business. I started Team Elite Chiropractic before we met but she has helped me grow the business beyond my own personal limits. She pushes me out of my comfort zone but also gives me the tools and encouragement to succeed.
