We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassandra Schaeg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassandra, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My goal is to have a thriving business and shift the narrative of black and brown entrepreneurs in the wine and beer space. As a black woman in this space, my journey shouldn’t be an anomaly. We love wine, beer, and being immersed in all facets of the process is where we strive to be. I stand alongside winemakers, brands, connoisseurs, and advocates that bring culture, community, and conversation to an industry that overlooks women and minorities. That will change, and my goal is to bear witness.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
After laying roots in the “hidden city” known as Escondido, California, I immersed myself in the community and was amazed to see the evolving agricultural presence. Growing up in Temecula and watching it turn into a wine destination, I envisioned the same and founded SIP Wine & Beer (SIP). SIP is a destination to empower, inspire, and exchange knowledge. My goal is to make wine and beer simple and fun while supporting women and minorities in the industry. Through community, culture, and conversation, we encourage wine and beer lovers to share their experiences, partake in thought-provoking discussions, and learn the facets of wine and beer. Whether you are new to wine and beer or curious about Escondido’s charm, SIP is the place to explore and indulge. Since opening in 2015, we have connected with thousands of wine and beer lovers invested in the community. Being a business owner is one of the most challenging journeys I’ve taken, even more so with the pandemic. I decided to put my community first, and to thrive as a business, I tapped into my creativity to engage with my SIP Family virtually. The most important things I’ve learned is to BE still, listen to your voice, and be authentic. The rest will follow, and I am grateful to continue the SIP | CONNECT | SHARE movement.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s easy… Hike Dixon Lake at 6 am Head and then to Sunny Side Kitchen for breakfast. Have lunch at Chicken Lisa’s followed by the first winery stop-Altipiano Vineyards. After, we head to Domaine Artefact Vineyard & Winery and top it off with dinner from Lourdes, Kinaly Thai, or Burger Bench

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
That’s a long list…….but to name a few, God, my parents and siblings, Tonantzn Rennick, The Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce, SIP Wine & Beer Family, The City of Escondido, Dr. Jim O’Bannon, and RG Alliance.
