Meet Justin Hartinger | Electrical Contractor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Hartinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was something I had wanted to do ever since I was a kid. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial mindset and wanted the opportunity to build something of my own. A big influence on me was my older brother, who owned his own business in the semiconductor industry. I worked for him for several years, and that experience taught me a lot about how to run a business, work with customers, manage projects, and build strong relationships with people. Those lessons gave me the confidence and foundation to eventually start my own company and pursue the kind of work and service standards I believed in.

What should our readers know about your business?
One of the things I’m most proud of about my business is that I get to help people every single day. Being an electrician and a business owner is an incredibly rewarding career. A lot of what we do is more than just wiring or installing equipment — we’re helping people solve problems, improve their homes and businesses, and feel safe and comfortable. That’s something I never take for granted.
Like any business, there have definitely been challenges along the way. One of the biggest challenges today is advertising and marketing. There are so many deceptive strategies out there, and it can be difficult for customers to know who they can really trust. We’ve been very fortunate because the majority of our growth has come from customer referrals and word of mouth. To me, that means more than any advertisement ever could because it shows that people genuinely trust our work enough to recommend us to their friends and family.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in business is that no matter how hard you work, you simply can’t please everyone. When you do thousands of jobs and interact with so many different people, eventually someone may not be happy for one reason or another. That can be difficult when you genuinely care and work hard to make people happy. Over time, I’ve learned not to let those moments define the bigger picture. What matters most is continuing to show up every day, doing honest work, treating people fairly, and helping as many people as possible.
What I want people to know about Always Quality Electrical, Inc. is that we truly care about our customers and the work we do. This business was built through hard work, relationships, trust, and consistency over many years. Recently, a friend asked me when I planned to retire, and honestly, I don’t know. As long as there are still people who need help, I want to be there for them. I don’t think you ever really get too old for that mindset.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my best friends was visiting San Diego for a week, I’d probably keep a lot of the trip centered around the beach and everything that makes coastal North County such a great place to live. We’re incredibly fortunate to have amazing weather and some of the best beaches in the country just minutes away.
One of the first things I’d do is take them for a long walk on the beach in Del Mar Beach. It’s one of my favorite places to relax, clear your mind, and really appreciate the beauty of San Diego. There’s something special about the coastline there, especially in the evening around sunset.
My wife and I also love going to Las Olas Mexican Restaurant in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. We’ll usually have lunch or dinner there and then walk across the street to the beach afterward. It’s the perfect combination of good food, ocean views, and that laid-back Southern California atmosphere.
Another great day would probably start with grabbing some boogie boards and heading down to South Carlsbad State Beach. After spending the day in the water and on the sand, I’d take them into downtown Carlsbad to eat at The Coyote Bar & Grill, which a lot of locals still just call “The Cantina.” It’s a fun spot with great food and a relaxed beach-town vibe.
And if anyone somehow still had room afterward, we’d probably finish the night with homemade ice cream from Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream. That’s always a solid way to end a beach day.
To me, the best part about San Diego isn’t just one specific attraction — it’s the lifestyle. Being able to spend the day at the beach, enjoy great local food, and relax with friends and family outdoors year-round is what really makes this area special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d definitely like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, friends, and all of the customers who have supported me throughout this journey. Having people who believe in you and encourage you along the way makes a huge difference when you’re building a business.
My story has also been shaped by some difficult experiences. My biological father passed away from diabetes when I was around 20 years old, and that had a major impact on my life. Later on, my mom remarried, and my stepdad became a huge mentor to me. He helped guide me through getting my contractor’s license and taught me a lot about the trade and running a business. When he retired, I was fortunate enough to take over the company, and together we evolved it into what is now Always Quality Electrical, Inc.
I’m incredibly grateful for everything he has done for me and for the opportunities he gave me. I also want to recognize all of my amazing customers. Their trust, referrals, and support have helped the business continue to grow, and I truly appreciate every one of them.
