We had the good fortune of connecting with Babi Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Babi, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
The inspiration behind the name of my business is a bible verse, Isaiah 41:10 which says “Fear Not for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” I have carried this verse with me for a couple of years now and It has been the verse I resonate with my life. One of the scariest and most vulnerable things you could do is start your own business because you’re creating items and essentially putting your whole heart and soul into these pieces and telling the world okay here is my hard work and hoping others will love it the way you do. This bible verse helps keep me centered and have faith that my business will be okay. Even if there’s more lows than highs, I still have God upholding me with his righteous right hand. It’s a big risk to start a small business, but I love the fact that my business will always be tied to this verse and remind me everyday that I have support all around me, and to have faith every single day that this business will be successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My clothes are a combination of minimalism and streetwear. At first I started by only creating tie dye pieces but have now branched out to include different types of prints. A little bit about the items available is that everything from the brand is one of a kind and handmade by me. This is probably my favorite part about my brand, that although you can purchase the same item as someone else, they will never be identical. Season 1 was one of the biggest accomplishments for me, I personally thought up every design until it was exactly what I wanted. It wasn’t easy, I don’t think it ever will be, but it’s what I love. Being able to use my creativity and do what I’m passionate about is all I could ask for. The long nights and early mornings are tiring but after creating a new piece you forget about the lack of sleep or the stress because you’re proud of yourself. What I’ve learned is that this will never be easy, and there are seasons of doubt but the biggest reason as to why I keep going is because when you’re doing something you love it doesn’t compare to anything else. The biggest push for me everyday is remembering why I named my business 41.10 and remembering that I am not in this alone.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The absolute one thing I love is that everyone knows I need to start the day with a coffee and they support this! So a long weekend would consist of going to my favorite coffee shops which are: Blue Bottle, Dark Horse Coffee Roasters and Tired Eyes Coffee. And Of course I love food so I would need to potentially pick one of the many places I love which would is always a difficult choice when its between Harumama, Mendocino Farms, The Henry, Isushi, Cloak and Petal, Parakeet Cafe, Blaze Pizza, Morning Glory and so many more great options. I personally love being in Downtown San Diego and walking around or going shopping, but I think the key spots to visit are Encinitas, Torrey Pines Beach, Balboa Park, and Coronado.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and family have always been my biggest supporters. In the beginning when I just created a piece for myself, it was them who pushed me to start creating more pieces and share them. What I thought would simply be a hobby during this pandemic ended up turning into a small business and they deserve half of the credit I receive. They were my first customers and were there when I needed help financially or creatively, they have honestly helped create this business.
