Meet Katy Schlegel | Healer, Intuitive, Explorer & Spiritual Guide

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katy Schlegel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katy, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to never, ever give up.
From the outside looking in, I probably haven’t been much of a success in my business. I’ve failed many times over. However, one thing I had to learn as a business owner and founder is that I can never give up on my dreams because once I’ve given up, that’s when the real failure sets in.
I remind myself often of the “3 Feet from Gold” story. The moral of this story is that the miner gave up on his mine because he wasn’t striking gold, so he sold it to a “junk man,” and when this man got to work, he struck gold just 3 feet from where the miner gave up.
This story has always motivated me to never ever give up. It has encouraged me to continue down my path and given me the grit that’s needed to keep moving forward even if I need to pivot. And pivoted I have over the past 8 years of being in business.
There have been a few times I’ve needed to change my direction and focus, but ultimately the lesson here is, never give up. And it’s my belief that it’s this attitude that leads to being successful.
Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”
My business has been the greatest teacher of my life. I believe it came into my life to help me learn some major life lessons, and I have a sneaking suspicion it will continue to teach me even more, and it’s simply my job to never ever give up on it. Although, that’s easier said than done sometimes, right?

What should our readers know about your business?
My business today doesn’t look anything like it did when I first started. It has had many transitions and pivots along the way.
I started out with a women’s online boutique that was inspired by my travels around the world. It then transitioned to creating a platform to celebrate and support independent artisans from Morocco, Argentina, Bali, and Japan.
And now it’s in a new phase, perhaps in one of its biggest transitions, transforming into something more holistic in nature- one that incorporates healing, reconnection, spirituality, and experience.
Mariposa Skies is becoming a fusion of sorts. I am a healer and an intuitive, and I’m in the process of bringing all the different aspects of me and all the gifts that I’ve been given together.
This transition in my business is because there’s a sense of disconnection in the world right now. Not only are we disconnected from each other, but we’re disconnected from the natural world, disconnected from the spiritual world, and disconnected from ourselves.
I offer women these various ways to reconnect with their mind, body, and spirit. Whether it be through booking a 1:1 crystal energy healing session, listening to one of my channeled meditations, learning to travel through this life intuitively via my podcast, or shopping for jewelry handmade with intention and healing from artisans around the world. And I just started doing intuitive crystal readings on my YouTube channel.
All of these things have one thing in common: they’re all about helping you reconnect with who you truly are.
Dr. Wayne Dyer once said, “Our job in this lifetime is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born and raised in East County, San Diego. For some reason it gets a bad rap but I’ve seen some of the most amazing sunsets over these East County mountains. So if a friend was visiting me for a week, our adventure would start out in East County.
For the first day, we would drive up to Julian for an overnighter. We’d spend the afternoon at Volcan Mountain Winery- just outside of town. Then wander around Julian for a bit and do some local shopping and before they close- grab a piece of apple pie.
In the morning, we would head to the Julian Cafe where we’d spilt a cinnamon roll and an order of fried chicken and waffles with a mug of local Julian cider.
We’d head home after that and just relax for the rest of the day.
The next day, I would take them to Balboa Park, grab a cup of coffee and walk around- soaking in the sun and explore the international cottages or the Japanese Garden.
For dinner we’d hit up Ponce’s Mexican Restaurant in Kensington and devour their carne asada fries and street tacos.
On the third day, I’d take them down to Pacific Beach and get an early breakfast at Kono’s Cafe on the beach- grab one of their delicious breakfast burritos and eat it out on their deck that over looks the Pacific Beach Pier and watch the surfers.
We’d probably wander around the beaches for a bit, then go to La Jolla Cove to see the tide pools and end our day watching the sunset at Windandsea beach. On the way home we’d grab a bite to eat at one of my favorite East County local spots- Funky Fries and Burgers.
The next day we’d go to North Park and go to The Mission for breakfast. Then walk around and do some local shopping at one of my favorite shops called Pigment. After that, we’d check out North Park’s various vintage shops. By late afternoon we’d head to historic Old Town and walk around, snack on a churro or two and end our day sitting out on the patio at Casa Guadalajara sipping margaritas.
On our final day, I’d take them to the Point Loma Lighthouse around midday- walk around there for a bit, learning about San Diego history before heading over to Coronado to take in the sights. Just before sunset- we’d grab a spot and a bite to eat at the Hotel Del Sun Deck Bar & Grill where we’d toast to our time together with a glass of bubbly while watching the sunset over the ocean.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my mom. She was my #1 fan, executive assistant, travel buddy and everyday cheerleader really the driving force behind me and my business that encouraged me to never give up on my dreams. Even on the other side she is still cheering me on and sending me signs to keep going.
