In the beginning, it was all work and zero balance when it came to social life, home life, and even marital life. Both of us are married men and I am a father of two, so before we got heavily involved in home life we were touring for years, playing as often as we possibly could, and trying to get on bigger shows to develop a bigger audience. This is quite possibly the hardest thing to achieve as an independent business owner. I honestly still do not have an answer to how to maintain or even achieve work/life balance. When people think about how great it is to be a business owner, they look at the upsides like making your own hours, doing what you want with your day, being your own boss, etc. Don’t get me wrong… those are all very valid things to think. However, they fail to take into consideration, just how freaking hard it is. There’s no sugar coating it. You work endless hours. When I first moved to LA I was working so much to reach my goals that I wasn’t paying attention to much of the other aspects of my life. I stopped hanging out with friends, I wasn’t really taking care of my health or eating habits and I think it took a toll on my, it wasn’t until I started having some health issues that made me realize I had to balance my life better. I respect the balance much more nowadays. People always tell you these things but we don’t listen.
