We had the good fortune of connecting with Crishuna Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Crishuna, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
A strand of three cords is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12 To me this means that you by yourself are strong .. but when you have support you can get through anything. I was taught hard life lessons about life at the tender age of 9. One in particular was going into foster care with my other two siblings. While we were together and families took all of us.. I felt like we could get through that. Once there were adopted I felt alone. I realized that love and support made me feel strong! I searched for it for a long time until I realized I still had those strands within my heart and I am not easily broken.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey HairCREEations by Cree was a doozy! I was stuck in the town where I went to college and it is a high crime area. I had a job as a night auditor at a hotel but it was dead end. I felt trapped. To relieve this trapped feeling I dabbled in drug use. I also had a baby boy to take care of.. a little me. I didn’t want him to experience any of the pain I had to a child so I decided it was time for a change! My life was soon spinning out of control. I was also experiencing a terrible breakup.. from a boyfriend of 4 years. My cousin Jazzmin (my blessing) called me and asked me how would I like to move to San Diego and work in (who I consider my brother) “Cali” long established barbershop doing dreadlocks. I came down with nothing. They literally let my skills speak for themselves and I’ve been at Kings Barbershop ever since. I try to have a positive mindset and put my best foot forward every day because I this is my second chance. This is a chance to rebuild my life doing what I truly love. HAIR!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in the beautiful city of San Diego. Coined “the most beautiful city in America”. The architecture of the buildings scream high tech. We are also close to Mexico so you guessed it.. We offer the most authentic Mexican food you can find! There are multiple beautiful beaches and scenery. We also have fine dining and the most exquisite fashion. San Diego is city life and luxury combined. My perfect day would consist of a walk on Cowls mountain, next up lunch on one waterfront properties at one of beaches. It does not matter which one… just pick and take it in.. next head over to one of various theme parks.. for me it’s sea world for amazing rides and water shows. Mid evening ..,a cruise on one of the fabulous cruise liners… After that dinner downtown (Gaslamp or Old Town) you can’t go wrong with any of these choices. After this day all you want to do is sleep.. but guess what? Wash and repeat because You can do this again tomorrow with multiple choices.. mixing and matching away!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to take the time to thank my foster mother. She took me in when I was 15 and treated me as her own child. She also involved me in church and this after school program I attended from 9 thru 12th grade called PIC (Psychology in the Community) This is also where I met several people whom now I consider family. Through my critical teenage years I was able to stay grounded and push through with a somewhat “normal” teenage life. They promoted me to mentor and I was soon helping teens like myself. They eventually pushed me to find a college. I attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where I majored in Mass Communications. This was the closest I was going to get to cosmetology (my true love) because my foster mother wanted me to have a real degree! I appreciate her for that. She is a scholar herself and this was her alma mater.. she looked forward to me having that. I rocked it and volunteered my services (makeup and hair) to my department and the theater. While I’m college I joined a Society called Vikette Society. Our motto is “We stand with Dignity and Walk with Pride. My society is a community based organization where we bridge the gap between home and away while the students attend UAPB. Since 2006, we have helped so many young women feel comfortable and aid them into womanhood. My sisters and I also serve many others in the community and the state of Arkansas. As time went on I moved to San Diego and I attended SDCC wonderful cosmetology department where I earned my most beautiful badge to date. My cosmo license!! These are my cords that has made me into the driven business minded, kind, and compassionate person I am today.
