I had to think about this one, I feel there are so many values that we should all live by, kindness, dependability, honesty are all essential for simply being a good human, but the value I live by most would be respect. If you respect others, everything else falls into place. It is the one value that really encompasses most values. The value or principle that matters most to me can be deified in a quote by Margaret Mead. “Never doubt that a group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed it’s the only thing that can.” The accomplishments of one individual can be great, but the collective action and commitment form a. group of citizens excercising their rights can make cultural and systemic change that lats through generations. Sitting on the sidelines is no longer an option for any of us today. If we each take one small piece of the puzzle and dedicate ourselves to fixing it, we can become a snowball for good that picks up believers as we roll forward. Read more>>

My guiding principles are passion and compassion and I’ve followed them since I was a very young. Gallup’s Strength Assessment test helps you uncover your top 5 strengths, and one of mine is “Belief”, which simply means that my core values guide and direct me to live out my passion, that which I believe in strongly. Because of this belief, I knew from a young age that I wanted to go into the social services field, and nothing would deter me. Also, I believe that those that know me would say I am a big feeler, [okay, my nickname at one time was “Waterworks Rose” :)] and I am moved by compassion to act and care for those around me. Compassion to me, is recognizing that we are all human and deserving of respect and to serve others needs with that framework. We all need compassion, and often the hardest compassion to give is self-compassion, as we can be our biggest critics. While I’m a continual work in progress, these are the principles that guide me in all areas of my life. Read more>>
