We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassidy Michelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassidy, what matters most to you?
I had to think about this one, I feel there are so many values that we should all live by, kindness, dependability, honesty are all essential for simply being a good human, but the value I live by most would be respect. If you respect others, everything else falls into place. It is the one value that really encompasses most values. As a content creator, I believe disrespect is earned, and everyone should be given respect as a human being, not the other way around. To say respect is earned, is to say you are going to judge a book by its cover. If there is one thing I have learned through social media, its that amazing humans come in all forms with all types of talent and who am I to judge them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well you could say I am a full on girly girl. I love style. I love hair. I love makeup. I had ambitions to go to go the fashion institute or cosmetology school. I used to do hair and makeup for all my friends for prom and special events. Eventually I graduated to weddings and it was a fun side hustle. I was the friend that got called to go shopping to pick out new school wardrobes or the friend who’s closet you raided for a hot date. Sadly, the stars never aligned for me to go to cosmetology school or the fashion institute. When quarantine hit, I was climbing the ranks in hospitality as a manager for a large resort, however I always had that nagging feeling I wasn’t in my calling. I have workaholic tendencies and being furloughed was awful at first. I think I bought 17 puzzles to keep me busy, and that is how my blog was formed. I needed an outlet. I needed work. More importantly I needed to feed my passion. I started with style hauls, great sale finds, and make up tutorials. I eventually started doing hair tutorials, and one went viral, than another one, and another. As more found my page, they started loving my style and my makeup tips. Eventually everything fell into place and I now have an amazing group of followers whom I love dearly that get to go on this journey with me while I share my style, makeup hacks, and hair tutorials daily. I wish I had started following my passion sooner. I wish it had not taken a pandemic to force me into what I knew all along was my calling. Making a career on social media is not easy. It is one of the hardest jobs I have ever had. You never stop working. It is basically starting a small business, but that small business is you. You are making your name a brand, and well starting out you get made fun of a lot. People roll their eyes at you. I learned early on, let the mean messages go. Surround yourself with those who encourage you and want to see you succeed, remove those who are there to watch you fail. I have the best group of girls, who have built me up each step of the way, that is what you need to succeed. Listen to those who have walked the path before you and read their books, download their podcasts, and ask them questions! I want the world to know, YOU can do anything you want to do with a little bit of blood, sweat and tears. I started a whole new career in a pandemic – simply by following my passion. It sounds cheesy, but so many people say it to the point of it being cheesy…because its true.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ohh my beautiful San Diego! The many places I love to go! If my best friend was visiting tomorrow, I would start out at the farmers market in Little Italy. My perfect Saturday starts out with getting in line at Morning Glory to make a breakfast reservation, and walking through the farmers market while you wait to be called (its normally a 2 hour wait because the food IS THAT GOOD). You have to get coffee at James Coffee, and see the sunset cliffs. Orange Ave in Coronado is a beautiful stroll with small shops and boutiques, feels like you are walking in a different decade, not to mention the beach is a block away. The best ocean view dining would have to be dinner at Dukes in La Jolla, the sunset while having a nice dinner is breathtaking. If you want the best Mexican food and a fun activity, Old Town has some yummy spots and the haunted Whaley House, which is a very fun tour! On Friday and Saturday night The Shout! House is always popping – the best piano bar you will ever go to! Or if you want something calm, Craft and Commerce is a great spot to grab a drink with its speakeasy vibe. I could go on and on about the cool spots in San Diego. We have no end of beaches. Balboa park is stunning with its walking trails. The coffee shops never disappoint! So much to do and see!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many deserve credit for where I stand today, I can honestly say I did not do this even remotely alone. My sweet husband is truly the reason I have my platform. When I first wanted to be a content creator, I was terrified of ridicule. My husband was my strength and my constant encouragement – basically the best cheerleader there ever was. We decided as a couple I would never conform or alter my opinion for a brand deal. I respect my followers time and money and they deserve my honesty. When you are a new content creator, most of the deals you are offered, are well…rough…I turned down almost all. I could not stick my name on any of it. Quickly we realized the price tag that comes with being a style and beauty social media guru is quite high when you don’t have brand deals. My husband went out and sold his dream car (a dodge challenger with all the bells and whistles) so that I would have the money I needed to run my blog, run my instagram, and create tiktoks and not accept any brand deals not worth my time. That is an act of selfless love I will never forget and its allowed me to be able to continue being an honest blogger, to share only what I feel is worthy of being shared and this has created a loyal following, as well as brand deals with companies I love and want to put my name on.
