What excites or inspires you?

I’m inspired by the beautiful vistas of the West Coast, and have been since I was a kid in West Virginia. That inspiration was actually my back door entry into photography. I was determined to be in California, and ended up refining that craft as a residual benefit. Constantly editing the images allowed me to relive the initial experience and learn back-end skills. Of course I have other inspirations as well: images from people who can chase and shape light much better than I can are always pushing me to learn how they created something. Read more>>

The diversity of the earth never ceases to amaze me. I’m drawn and inspired by simple things that surround us. I feel lucky living in the small coastal town with unlimited access to the ocean and good wildlife watching opportunities. However, I would always say yes to a new trip to the mountains. For me inspiration comes directly from seeing new places. There is nothing better than waking up in a new place and see where the road takes me. I get inspired from all sorts of different things and the ways in which I get inspired is often changing. Hearing a beat that I vibe with always creates inspiration right away. I’m generally very selective when it comes to beat selection. The beat needs to evoke an excited response in me almost immediately. Otherwise I have found that writing becomes a grind. If the beat is the one and I get that good feeling I can just start writing and it comes easily. Read more>>
