We had the good fortune of connecting with Zochi Flores Abarca and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zochi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started out, it was simply a hobby I enjoyed doing. I found so much joy going to the open wholesale markets and looking at new jewelry pieces and accessories. I would come back buying in bulk for special occasions, birthdays, and gifting. However, during the pandemic, many ladies from my job would love the necklaces and earrings I would wear so I then would go back and purchase another set for them. It became a business when my husband suggested to add $1 or $2 to each item to compensate for my time, drive, and parking. By September, I introduced the idea of RAMC (named after both my parent’s first and middle initials) to my husband and close friends, and the support I received was inspiring. In the beginning it was all fun however, it became an obsession when it was time to be creative. I went through sleepless nights because I would have so many ideas and visuals of how I wanted to showcase the jewelry pieces, that I began to have my son involve with the photography and creating content. RAMC has escalated from gold plated to gold filled jewelry and I am hoping we also have more solid gold items. We want to cater to all clients that enjoy having gold filled pieces for long term as well an alternative to solid gold at an affordable price.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career is in the child and family services. I am not a social worker however I admire the hard work and passion the workers have dealing with children and families directly. I am part of the administration team that handles case loads, liaison for the community, and initiatives in public services. The impact that local policies and laws have on local constituents and the importance of effective government is to the wellbeing and vitality of the children and families we serve. I love my job however I want to do more. My goal is to have a non-profit to assist children and families with educational grants and scholarships. I am a current student in the Graziadio Business School at Pepperdine University, and with the connections I have formed and mentorships that have been provided to me, it feels possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Los Angeles are Palos Verdes, Pacific Palisades, and anywhere in the South Bay. Palos Verdes because you can hike and go to the beach to cool off. The Palisades is fun and secluded, and the South Bay, to be specific, Manhattan Beach, and Redondo Beach, for their piers, beach walks and dining. But my favorite little getaways are Santa Barbara and Palm Springs. Both are two hours away from Los Angeles, and are perfect to take pictures and explore.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this to the young mothers out there. I was a teenage mom and I know how hard it is raising a child and wanting to continue your goals. I want those young girls that feel they have no hope or desire to continue pushing. Don’t give up! You have many that will remind you of mistakes and errors and I want you to stay strong. You can do it! Work in silence, and do it for you!

Love yourself. Life is not about who you once were, it is about who you are now and the potential of what you can become. Never regret a day in your life, good days bring us joy, bad days teach us experience, the worst days teach us lessons, and the best days make up the memories we will hold and cherish near and dear to us. Never forget, while you are busy doubting yourself, someone else is admiring your strength.
