We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendi Blanton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I never saw myself being an Entrepreneur. I didn’t grow up with anyone who owned their own business, so I thought the path to success involved schooling then finding a career I liked and working until I retired. The problem with that path is that it leads to you making someone else’s dreams come true. I have always known I was meant to be really good at something, but never seemed to find the right path…until I landed in bed on-and-off for years. As I was working my way through multiple surgeries over multiple years, I struggled with my mind being very active, but my body was not able to do much. To help with the boredom, I watched TV and one day stumbled across Cesar Milan’s Dog Whisperer show. At first it was just something to watch to pass the time, but I quickly became fascinated at how Cesar could achieve such amazing results with the dogs he worked with. Soon I found myself taking lots of notes and researching dog psychology online. When I recovered from my last hip replacement surgery, I started trying the techniques on my dogs and had great success. I found myself wanting to share these techniques with my friends and family, which lead me to realize my calling. While I never say myself as an Entrepreneur…I knew this was what I was meant to do…help people better understand how to relate and communicate with their dogs. I started my business in 2018 and have never looked back!! My friends kept telling me “if it doesn’t work out, you can always go back to Corporate America”. For me, there was no going back. I was going to make my company successful, or I was going to die trying! Fear and doubt can easily creep in your thoughts, but if you remind yourself what’s important to you, what your purpose is in this life, you’ll find your path!!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in helping people learn to better communicate with their dogs. Often people think dogs speak our language, while they do understand some words, they better understand your energy. When I tell people I use dog psychology to help them better understand their dogs, I think some people might misunderstand the expression. Dog psychology is simply communicating with our dogs using techniques that speak to their instincts. Dogs do not think logically, they act based on their instincts. I combine positive dog training with dog psychology to help you teach your dog how to be a respectful member of your family. When you remove the anger and replace it with being assertive, your dog will start to respect and trust you. When you begin to reward your dog’s calm behavior, your dog learns that type of behavior (calmness) gets the rewards, like your affection. Being a small business, advertising can be expensive, so it has been challenging to share my story and services with people. If I hadn’t had amazing mentors in my life, I think the doubt and fear might have won, but when people believe in you and the path that you’re on, you’re unstoppable! Some people choose to look at the obstacles in their life as road blocks instead of stepping stones. If we continue to learn and grow, we can help more and more people.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I think about who was put in my path to help me get to where I am today, I think of two people that I consider to be some of the Angels in my life. Cesar Milan brought his knowledge to mainstream America with his TV shows. Without his show, I’m not sure I would have discovered the path that I am on now. He not only focuses on how to rehab the dogs he works with, he also helps the humans realize how important and impactful their own energy is to everyone around them, including their dogs. He helps people find their peace in life, then teaches them how to effectively communicate with their dogs. As Cesar says “calm, confident, love and joy”. Cesar says he had Angels that helped him achieve his goals in life, well he is one of my Angels helping me achieve my goals in life! My other Angel is Tanna Matys. When I got laid off from Corp America, it was do or die for my dog training business. Tanna spent several hours with me helping to guide me through all the things an Entrepreneur needs to focus on to make their business successful. She turned me on to pod casts geared towards mindset growth and understanding the path ahead was not going to be easy. Fast forward to now, she is still helping me realize my potential and continuing to offer suggestions to grow my business. When you have an amazing mentor in your corner, you feel empowered to make it happen!
