We had the good fortune of connecting with Vitor Viana and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vitor, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Since I was a kid I had this thing in my mind saying I would end up working with art. I have always been interested in the aesthetics of things and it kind of built the way I see life, I feel every single thing either physical or not has a certain value and what makes it more valuable is the way we see and treat it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am very very passionate about what I do. I love creating things, I love having my camera on me, I love shooting what I feel like. It has never been easy it has always been love. Do for love. Love something and do it no matter what. Even though I started my career as a surf photographer I try not to label myself. I’m constantly falling in love with new things to shoot such as architecture, shapes and fashion, it’s all about feel what you feel. Seek your way and go.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I can assure San Diego has got something. Something that made me move out here and I still don’t know how to explain, California is just pure magic. Road trips are my favorite and there’s nothing better than being able to grab a few surfboards and hit the road discovering around with your friends. Since a like to cook, waves and barbecue are definitely one of the best combos ever. We’d find those mellow waves and hangout at the beach all day long and as a Brazilian from Rio de Janeiro, I couldn’t finish a good day without a beer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
People are certainly intriguing and so interesting. Usually I try to get inspired by people who are involved in things that not necessarily related to my work so that makes me think in a different way. As an artist I’m always getting inspired by different things and humans each day in my life, they are always changing. If I said only one I’d have to say another one tomorrow hahaha but I’d pick a musician called Rodrigo Amarante and a photographer called Helmut Newton, they have been part of my creative process these last days.
